Next time I open your newsletter, Mary, I will provide myself with an elegant---but 100% fireproof--- jumpsuit. You lit a bon fire, woman! And it was brilliant.

WOW! Mary, I was jarred into wide-awakeness from the beginning to the end of your communication - it was an every-paragraph-riviting read! The only pause from my-every-nerve-ignited moment reading your column was coming upon the magnificent photo of Linden!!! Thank goodness his enigmatic unflinching gaze provided me with a pleasant prelude just before I turn in for the evening! But, I don't want to end this comment without extending heart-thankful hurrahs and grateful appreciation for you, your brilliant writing, indefatiguable energizing spiritedness, and inspirational courage!

On fire tonight! Not holding back and rightfully so, in my opinion. You should also be given an honorary law degree for your explanation of the 1st Amendment right to free speech 😉 Thanks for your work.

Excellent summary of the law and the sorry state of chaos that surrounds us. The pathetic, grifting, narcissist that is your uncle understood 2 truths about our country: 1) far more people want to be entertained than want to be informed, and 2) the myth of the 'American Dream' hid the ugly reality' of the 'zero-sum' strategy (ie, for me to win, you must lose), which allowed him to divide this country into endless fractures to be exploited by mediocrities like Weiss, Greenwald, Maher, etc and monsters like Facebook and Fox.

Mary, thanks for everything you covered. I found this item on social media & believe it to be factual. It provides context for Neil Young’s stance. I share it in that spirit.

“So... Neil Young contracted polio as a child in the '50s. He had to relearn how to walk, it left him permanently disabled and contributed to a serious anxiety disorder that he still deals with today. He has epilepsy and so does his daughter. He has 2 sons with cerebral palsy. The album TRANS was written as a way to communicate with one of them. He founded The Bridge School for kids with severe disabilities and still organizes annual benefit concerts for the school.

Neil Young understands post viral syndromes and disability better than most. He understands public health and the importance of messaging, platforms and how they can be used to create good and to also cause harm. In todays world it's amazing to see someone with a huge platform use it to send such a loud and powerful message. I have mad respect for this man and wanted to use my teeny tiny platform to shed light on some of the things that have shaped this good human who has provided the background music for so many of our lives "❤ - Amy Hirshfeld Fein.

On a different note, I’ve always had kind of a love/hate thing for Bill Maher, but lord, it’s tipped waaaaayyyyy over to not even wanting to hear his bile. I was looking forward to hearing Fiona Hill (once again!!) and what a waste of her time!

Again, thank you for being a clear voice.

Thank you for this information about Neil Young. I spent several years of my childhood during the pre vaccine years of the polio epidemic and managed to elude it but many of my cohort did have it. Two of my college rommmates were survivors. A nasty disease. So are the others. I have a rare condition and sometimes attend online NORD conferences. Am constantly inspired by people with disabilities living such extraordinarily courageous lives...in contrast to certain chicken politicians who cave to "he who must not be named."

Well said, Mary. If Spotify had discontinued carrying Rogan, he would still have freedom of speech, he just would have to find a different way to disseminate it, much like Donald had to after being kicked off Twitter. Neil Young exercised his free speech by saying he didn't want to be associated with a company that allowed Rogan to spread lies. Spotify chose the wrong party to drop.

Glad you continue to call attention to the fascists who are way too high on all those lists -- it's enlightening and depressing, but important to track. It certainly helps explain why too many in this country have become so extreme -- the fascist propaganda machine is way too powerful.

Mary, I love it when you set them straight. A girl after my own heart! I was born with a justice heart gene from certain ancestors and once, while serving in the US Foreign Service in Russia during the cold war, threw a KGB agent (who mistook me for an easy mark) against the wall opposite my hotel room door by slamming it at a well timed moment with the appropriate amount of force. I heard him hit the wall and slump to the floor. I was in the country for a good 7 more months on special assignment and no one ever bothered me again. Kind of like the Irish Fishermen energy.

Linden has it and so does Sebastian.

I have some "good in us" books to recommend whenever that is appropriate as a topic.

I am delighted by the erudite aside about Justice Blackmun. Few people are familiar enough with any member of the SCOTUS to inject a remark likethat. .

About the books: you probably know that the wingnut sinecure system ensures that the books — in prior years physical ones, but now almost assuredly digital sales as there’s no disposal cost — are bought in bulk, shipped to a warehouse, then sent to the pulp mill. Who’s buying them? The Kochs and other wingnut welfare sugar daddies.
