While hindsight is 100% reliable, the election could have gone either way right up until the end. Given the nose dive in the polls that Trump took after the Access Hollywood tape was revealed, it would have been devastating if Stormy Daniels' account of Trump's infidelity with a porn star came out just before the election.
Trump stopped at nothing to suppress the story and to cover up the footprints to it; and he's still trying to cover it up now. While Trump continues to be utterly devoid of moral scruples, there is nothing within his character that even suggests a scintilla of shame.
And the only true regret that he has is that he got caught.
