‘With fear for our democracy . . ."
Our only hope is to elect Joe Biden and Kamala Harris
It was so much worse than we thought.
And now it can get so much worse than we ever imagined.
When the U.S. Supreme Court took up Donald’s idiotic claims of absolute immunity, most of us thought it was a cheap and underhanded political tactic meant to delay Donald’s trial. It turns out that would have been a good outcome. Instead the corrupt supermajority has come very close to granting him the powers of a king; that he has, in effect, gotten away with the crimes against America that he’s already committed; and, if he gets back into the Oval Office, he’ll be able to commit even more serious crimes with impunity. That’s why we have to do everything we can to stop him.
That means, first and foremost, we must move on from the debate, unify around the only ticket that has ever beaten Donald, and make it crystal clear just how high the stakes are. If we don’t, it’s only a matter of time before anybody who has stood against Donald and the corrupt fascists who support him gets shipped off to Guantanamo Bay as his “official act.”
It’s infuriating that Donald and the Republican Party is having another great week, thanks in part to weak Democrats, Never Trump Republicans, and the worst, most activist Supreme Court in American history.
The justices who are trying to make my uncle a king are traitors, equal to the traitors who attempted a coup against our nation and who have been spreading the Big Lie in order to undermine the American people’s faith in free and fair elections. With this immunity decision, they have launched an attack on our most important ideals. It’s a continuation of the 2021 coup attempt, and it’s the start of the next one, not just a rubber stamp for my uncle’s worst impulses and abuses but an open invitation for more.
This Court needs to be stopped. A code of ethics is no longer enough. We need to add at least five seats in order to balance out the egregious criminality, partisanship, and corruption that the justices in the super-majority represent. This was an unjust and anti-democratic decision from a Court that no longer has any credibility and, apparently, no longer believes in its mission to uphold the Constitution.
So what do we do now? First of all, we desperately need to pull together, move past last week, and work our asses off for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
I was there in Atlanta. I know Biden had a terrible night. Everyone knows it. In different ways, so did Donald Trump, CNN, and journalism. But the days of hand-wringing and despair that followed did nothing to move us closer to combatting the clear and present danger Donald, his Republican Party, and his illegitimate Supreme Court supermajority pose to this country. If anything, our obvious fear and uncertainty has only made Donald’s last few days better than they otherwise might have been.
If we want to stop the insanity, we need to make sure Donald is not returned to the White House. I believe unequivocally that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are the best way to make sure that doesn’t happen. Will it be easy? Of course not. It was never going to be. But today, we were reminded just how high the stakes really are.
Six unelected people have stripped basic human rights from millions of women, destroyed the federal government, and made it almost impossible to hold Donald accountable while coming very close to granting him the powers of a king. It’s time for tens of millions of us to rise up and vote in unprecedented numbers. That’s how we tell the New York Times editorial board to fuck off. It’s how we increase the likelihood that Donald goes to prison or, at the very least, never gets near the levers of power again. And it’s how we start to take back our country from the corrupt traitors on the Supreme Court.
This decision is the end of something and we have a choice: we can be demoralized and stop fighting, or we can use these horrific decisions as a rallying cry because if we do nothing, the consequences will be swift and unthinkable. If we do nothing, Donald will win and that will be the end of the American experiment.
So let’s get it together. If we want to save our country and our future and our children’s futures, we have to elect Democrats no matter what.
This has all been worse than we thought it would be, but we now know it will absolutely get so much worse than we can imagine unless we own the fact that making sure American democracy survives is down to us and no one else.
There is only once choice. We are on the literal precipice, and I think no one more than McConnell is responsible.
It just keeps getting worse.
I knew the ruling wouldn’t be good. But to give him immunity and turn this back to the lower courts —allowing him to maintain his Teflon Don status — and delaying Jack Smith’s case is beyond discouraging.
SCOTUS is stacked and ultimately very corrupt.
We absolutely MUST show up at the polls!
