I’m not religious at all so I can’t explain the mindset. Many, not all religious people, are also cult people. I think that the human mind can be fearful. That’s what has protected us as a species since we evolved. There are many things that we can’t explain such as what happens when you clinically die. Throughout history, man has worshipped multiple Gods, made sacrifices to Gods and now we seem to be down to one God per religion. I think religion for some is a comfort. When someone dies, you hear comments “oh he’s in a better place”. “I’ll be able to be with him someday after I die”. Religion also keeps it’s worshippers in line. You’re threatened with hell if you step out of line on earth. I think if a person can find comfort in the good and bad of life by believing in religion, then good for them. The problem is, that many are not content to just use it in their personal lives. They want to cram it down our throats and have laws passed according to their beliefs. There lies the problem. They are stepping all over our boundaries with their beliefs. I see how the Evangelical fringe has taken over Christianity in this country since I grew up. Rather than leaning more towards a progressive attitude towards religion as some other countries in the world have done, we are going backwards almost to Pilgrim times. So much of it is utterly hypocritical. Do what I say, don’t do what I do. That’s the part that I can’t stand the most.
