It's all so sad. I remember how proud and hopeful we felt as kids in school late 50s, early 60s. '63 was horrific and heartbreaking. The Beatles helped and the late 60s and 70s felt truly optimistic in so many ways. Now, it's like a perfect storm of all that could go wrong and it's a very long and frightening list.

Dear Mary, I hope and pray you’re recovering quickly from Covid, and so sorry you are sick! Wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your commentary and this Substack/narrative!! I’m kind of maxed out on subscribing to Substacks, but I can’t tell you how much so many of them have been important to me so I’d like to offer you my assistance? I’m a lifelong Republican who hasn’t voted for a Republican in 12 years or more (except in primaries against the leading candidates!) ! But I also come from an incredibly dysfunctional family, and so I have a special understanding of your plight! I’ve thought many times that if I wrote a novel about my family and what they have done that it would be a best seller, but it would take years to explain it all in a novel but I just don’t have the bandwidth or wherewithal to do that! You have obviously gathered up your truths and gone into the fray, and told the truth, and I couldn’t admire you more for doing that! You don’t know me from Adam, but the one thing I would like to offer you is my editing skills for your posts, skills which have been honed for many many years. I know that this Substack was written while you weren’t feeling well, but I have an exceptional editing background and would be more than happy to review any of your copy or posts for grammatical or punctuation errors, etc. gratis, of course, simply because I love what you’re doing and believe in you. Your post is terrific, Cathleen. I’ve noticed, similarly, that proofreading is in decline these days and there’s some extra effort required to decode articles here and elsewhere. My grandmother, who made a living selling encyclopedias door to door back in the day as well as teaching English in public schools, was insistent with me and others upon using proper grammar. Here’s seconding your suggestion, which you offered in the kindest way. Meanwhile, Mary has earned the highest respect and admiration for the ceaseless devotion of her outspokenness from an actual insider’s perspective about the unfortunate evil monster in our midst. Thank you Mary!!
