As hard as it is to believe (and I checked the space-time continuum just to make sure), it was only 14 days ago that President Joe Biden announced posted this on Twitter:
It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. . . .
For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work. And let me express my heartfelt appreciation to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.
And the President followed this extraordinary announcement with his full-throated endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris:
My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it's been the best decision I've made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this.
The way in which the Democratic Party has coalesced around Harris has been nothing short of extraordinary. All worries about infighting and gamesmanship and open conventions went out the window with the lightning-fast effort to make her candidacy not just inevitable but the best of all possible alternatives.
While the Trump campaign continues to flail, and Donald himself seems to be sliding even further into his black hole of grievance, self-pity, attention-seeking, and delusion, the Democrats are still riding the wave of the hope, enthusiasm, energy, and sense of possibility Harris has brought to the race.
As far as I’m concerned, there’s no reason for any of this stop—Donald’s team can’t find it’s footing and its efforts to stop the bleeding seem only to make things worse (see his appearance at the NABJ conference last week), while the Democratic ticket has so much to look forward to: the announcement of Harris’ vice president, the Democratic Convention in two and a half weeks, and whatever happens with the debates will only increase our momentum.
It's really nice to feel positive for a change, isn’t it?

Please join me tonight at 6:00 p.m. ET for another episode of “Ask Mary Anything (within Reason).” Leave your questions in the comments and I’ll get to as many of them as I can.
Im loving this blue wave. So many are coming to our side to fight fascism and DonOLD. Thanks Mary for your tireless efforts.
Except please don't fall for the NYT trumpist call for "debates". Unless Trump is subjected to mic cutoff, no audience, real time fact checking -- which last is nigh impossible in his Gish gallop, unless the moderator is willing to cut him off every single time --and not anything to do with FOX, no debate. Never never never give him a forum where he can break the rules to his advantage. Democrats never seem to get this: the other guy cheats at everything. There is no good faith.
