The entire country has been in an abusive relationship with DJT and MAGA for the last 9 years. The dynamics are the same. It is abuse writ large.

It really shouldn't be close at all, there is no choice for reasonable people. An articulate, intelligent, conscientious, energetic, successful person with a vision for moving America forward in excellent ways vs. a convicted felon who instigated a lethal insurrection against the country/Constitution he took an oath to protect as well as defying the espionage act with the theft of top secret documents and who has nothing to offer America except cozying up to dictators, advancement of white supremacy, division and tax cuts for the very wealthy.

During Democrats, lower & middle class increase standard of living. During Republicans, billionaires become richer & lower & middle class Americans needs are ignored. That's a fact.

Imagine wearing these t-shirts in a red state 👇 🤣

Amen!

We have had enough of Republicans taking away rights, giving tax breaks to Millionaires/Billionaires and Corporations.

They want to take away programs that help the citizens and Social security.

It shouldn't be close as you have said, but the sycophants are so busy at work: going to Nebraska to influence the electoral vote, campaigning and trying to pass legislation to increase fears about election integrity as well as prime the electorate of "anticipated election fraud", creating an avenue of chaos post election so that that results have to be decided by the House (which would not necessarily be accurate). With all these wheels in motion, Trump is quite confident he will be declared president by hook or crook.

Your post here woke me up YES! My whole life is different since 2016. It resurrected all the bad feelings of my upbringing.

However, due to publication dates, I do feel you did not give yourself time to heal from Covid. I finally got covid around Jan 30 this year, and it became long covid.

The fatigue from covid is real. Even though you manage very productive days (as do I), there is a bone weariness that refuses to go away. Perhaps when the book tour stops, you can address your health (mentally and physically) in a meaningful way.

I can’t even plan for the morning after the election if Harris doesn’t win.

I don’t think I can watch election night with all the smarmy pundits issuing opinions.

This is very frightening to me, and I’m sure to others of your readership.

Thank you, Heather. If I can second your resolution? The country has always been divided, but ever since the diabolical one has come onto the scene, he has thrown nothing but gasoline on the fire. He wants to take us back into the dark ages with nothing but ridiculous (stupid) nonsense. I am one of many independent Republicans who is proud to endorse the vice-president, and look for a good old-fashioned butt kicking on November 5. But we will need to watch what happens on November 6th and beyond. He will undoubtedly attempt to pull off another coup because that is WHO he is. And a huge thanks to Dr. Mary for providing this forum.

MAGA is more than 50 years old. It has roots in the relationship between DJT and Roy Cohn AND John Edgar Hoover: those three clowns were the original Axass of Evil. They were and remain three stooges - three unlikely friends and co-conspirators. I was in my early twenties in 1971 when I stumbled into JEd at the Rib Room in the Mayflower Hotel in DC. Hoover and his long-time companion had lunch there every day for decades. There was no special security back in the day, I just went to the next table and had lunch. I was curious, they checked out the California blonde. We became nodding acquaintences and then "friends". At first, I was too naive to understand why they were SO friendly. Eventually, over long, boozy lunches with Hoover in 1971, I heard then what MAGA spews now: hate. MAGA is Dem hate, them hate, fem hate, Black hate, foreign hate: hate, hate, hate. MAGA hates anyone but MAGA!!! Paradoxically, their hate hate is rooted in the self hate of the fondling founding fathers. Hoover was paranoid that someone would question his Black and gay side so he attacked Blacks and gays. Cohn had a love-hate relationship with his Jewish, gay side, so he attacked anyone who was different 24/7. Cohn was DJT's mentor and personal attorney for more than 15 years; the two were on the phone every day for hours. Cohn and Hoover would be wearing MAGA hats with gold leaf today.

3 very dangerous stooges. They killed all our Black leaders, and there's nothing anyone can say to convince me otherwise.

Expand full comment

The saddest part about the stooges is that they have negatively influenced the course of American history and caused a great deal of pain to millions. After many years of personal denial, science finally proved that Hoover was part Black. I know from personal experience that he was gay and in a long-term, loving relationship. Hoover threw himself under the bus. Two of the many passengers were Cohn and McCarthy. Trump, Graham, DeSantis, Gaetz and Green are still on board with the madness.

Expand full comment

If Hoover was part Black, he hated that about himself, because he's the one who set up all our leaders of the 60's. I've seen too many documentaries and conversations from various family of those leaders, and it's clear it was an inside government job.

Often times people hate that which is closest to them. "Straight" men going after gay men are typically on the down-lo. Anti-blackness among white people AND Blacks are that way for a reason.

Doesn't change the fact that he effected millions of people the most. No doubt he had something to do with the Kennedy assassinations as well. Convenient that they killed the so-called gunmen before they could talk and tell everybody who gave the orders. Yup!

Fast-forward to that kid who so-called tried to kill 45. They killed him before he could talk too. I don't trust this government as far as I can throw it. Too much bullshit, racism, and corruption. These recent guys are like a white non-Italian Mafia to me.

Yes, I agree that we all been been through much turmoil these 8 or 9 years. The insurrection was so bad for me. I am still not over that day-Jan 6th. Still cannot believe that an American did that, planned that and told followers to carry that sword. That was commited by AMERICANS, not by other countrys citizens. I DID NOT think we had such mean and hateful people in this wonderful country.. I am 86 and had to wake up. I have followed politics all my life and that was just something new. Never happened in our 250 year history.. I have loved History but that day and those awful criminals shocked me to the bone. Bonnie

Well, we did have the Civil War, Bonnie. Like you, I never considered the virulent level of hate and racism still present in 21st-century America.

As a child growing up in Harlem, NYC, I was surrounded by many different ethnicities and life was life; having to go into mid-Manhattan was STRESSFUL because the subtle prejudices could be felt.

I felt that the integration of Society, especially of Schools, would gradually (30 years) bring an end to Racism.

BOY, WAS I WRONG, IT IS FAR WORST.

I WON'T SEE A CHANGE IN THIS LIFETIME [11/5=81], HOPEFULLY, NEXT TIME AROUND THE WHEEL WILL BE BETTER; I DO NOT WANT TO BE A SAGITTARIUS, THO' !!!🤔😒😏😎♏️

Bonnie

I, too, am shocked to my core at how 9 years can change everything I thought was true.

I was an RN who went to work every day helping people through the worst days of their lives. In our work, my colleagues and I recognized the humanity of all people. All ages, sexes, sexual orientation, religions; political beliefs; patients handcuffed to their beds with a Sheriff in attendance; sex workers, drug addicts, homeless people and wealthy community elites. We never knew who had insurance and who didn’t. Didn’t care. All got the same best care we were capable of.

I believed people were basically good. Went to work, followed the rules, volunteered, voted regularly. Supported school and library levies as well as those for police, fire, and road improvements. Welcomed immigrants into our communities. Funded homeless shelters and drug recovery centers. This was the America I lived in.

I was naive.

Read Molly Ivan’s “Bushwhacked.” It opened my eyes but didn’t prepare me for the depth of depravity to come. Genuinely shocked at all the hate and violence of J6. The lies and treachery behind it. The ongoing vitriol and division. The long-range destruction of Project 2025, with roots going back decades. How many of us saw it coming?

Feel like we are stumbling through the ruins of a horrific earthquake. Trying to find a way forward through nearly impassable rubble. The majority of Americans are good and decent people. We will fix this. But like repaired fine porcelain, the cracks will always be visible.
