Why do the MAGA cult insist President Biden is prosecuting Trump. That is a lie. He is in a State of New York court room because he broke the law in New York. Trump trips on his own arrogance and incompetence. He then whines incessantly.

There are hundreds of lies coming from the maga camp, from insisting everything stems from a political persecution of Trump from 2016 on (ignoring his indecency as a human, predatory malevolence, epic deadbeat status, white supremacy, sleaze, cheats, cons, thefts, and more). There is ceaseless disregard for the obvious. While magas forever chant on the stolen election (that Trump tried, and failed, to contort in his favor), there is no acceptance of Trump's coercion of Ga's Sec. of State to falsify votes by adding more so he'd win. This was confirmed by the Sec. of State and the recording of the coercion. The admission of the many who were arrested for their involvement in a multi-state scheme to replace legit electors with fake ones (magas reluctantly admitted to participating in the scheme!). If Trump stated that Earth is really Uranus, the witless/easily led magas would proclaim that we were never on Earth.

Actually, T. Rump lives up his own and every other mag-ite’s “Uranus.” They’re all a bunch of stinking fIdiots, living in an alternate universe.

All caps is really the only way to do the emphasis normally done with underlining or italics. I really wish Substack would give us such editing options. Same goes for Facebook. You can't even add italics if you type that part of your comment on something like notes or word, edit it for font options, and paste. This is a MAJOR pain the the butt.

Expand full comment

It’s not just in Substack and Facebook that only caps can be used for emphasis. I find it’s also annoyingly true in texting or emailing (2 accounts, one professional—ending in .edu and one personal—ending in .com), all on my iPhone. It must be that only true word processing programs allow that fine a distinction in emphasis.

Not gonna happen! If you want the liberal anti-Trump viewpoint in American media, you need to watch MSNBC. They are obviously pro-Biden, but Joy Reid talked with Queen Rania of Jordan tonight on her show, and it was a smashing interview. Rania is a Palestinian and spoke about the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, the almost 35,000 dead from IDF bombs and shelling, 14,000 of whom were children. She opined that President Biden continues to support Israel, sending them weapons of war and not insisting on a permanent ceasefire. Let us face it, Biden has an excellent presidential record--best in the 21st century--programs for middle class, student loan forgiveness, support for women's reproductive rights. And more

However, he is a militarist and always has been, still viewing Israel through the lens of WWII and the Holocaust. He does not seem much interested in the plight of Palestinians. I have stated here that he needs to break up with Bibi, and now more than ever--before Netanyahu goes into Rafah and kills many more civilians. He has not addressed the likelihood of famine or the continuing difficulty of getting sufficient food, water and medicine into Gaza. I see these as major issues, because the College Democratic Council is criticizing him for not listening to protestors and supporting the war. They are an important voting block, and Biden must not ostracize them. Not sure what he can do now, but he said today he is not going to change his mind. This is scarier to me than The Orange Menace, because I think it is possible young people will not vote for President Biden or will vote Third Party unless he makes an effort to listen to a representative group of them. Sigh...

From BlackKnight10K on Twitter (currently monikered “X” by an arrogant man-child owner who thinks he’s very clever):

“Here's how "Genocide Joe" lost the support of people protesting the Israel/Hamas war:

He's negotiating a deal to end the war that includes:

• rebuilding Gaza

• a Palestinian state

•normalization between Israel, Saudi Arabia, and other Arab states

He successfully negotiated the only ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which ended because Hamas wouldn't abide by the terms

He's responsible for the only instance of hostages being released by Hamas

He sent billions in foreign aid to Gaza including:

• food

• medical supplies

• clean water

Building a pier off the shore of Gaza to get them more aid (which terrorists have already attacked to delay the aid)

He's stated over and over that the war against Hamas should be fought with the intent of minimizing civilian casualties

He helped prevent a single casualty from Iran's attack which included hundreds of drones and missiles

He's encouraged and supported peaceful protests

He's condemned Islamophobia

He's condemned antisemitism

He's condemned his opponent's plan to ban Muslims that includes a ban on any refugees from Gaza”

The U.S. has defense treaties and memorandums of understanding with Israel that the administration is required to follow. And Netanyahu wants to see trump back in office so he can pursue his long-held goal of no two-state solution.

Never forget that if trump is elected because people won’t vote for Biden, everything will be much, much, much worse for the Palestinians. Jared Kushner has discussed his plans to develop luxury properties in Gaza’s waterfront area, which includes removing all Palestinians from Gaza into the Neva Desert.

Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Expand full comment

Thanks for pointing this out- It is fine to criticize Israel, and it's past time for Bibi to step aside and stop prolonging the war to avoid facing his legal problems-

However, where is the criticism of Hamas, which is a terrorist organization that has no concern for the civilians of Gaza, that in fact welcomes their suffering and death as "Martyrs," even though it is doubtful that people in Gaza welcome this role?

Hamas has not held elections since 2007- What does Hamas want? The answer, I am quoting Hamas, is "Endless war-" I.E. Endless murder of Israelis, people of Gaza, every Jew on the face of the earth....... Any Muslim sect or person that does not agree with them or act according to their rule- Like ISIS, Hamas fighters take pride in murdering civilians- They would be happy to murder any non-Muslims anywhere, as

"Infidels-"

The protests are not actually Pro-Palestinian, they are pro-Hamas, I.E. Pro-Terrorists-

If Hamas cared about the citizens of Gaza, why did it not allow civilians to shelter in the vast, underground tunnels where the Hamas fighters and their arms are located?

BTW, Biden has been sanctioning the violent Israeli settlers in the West Bank, which results in freezing the bank accounts of these militants, who are protected by Netanyahu and the far-right in Israel-

Expand full comment

Hamas is not, in fact, pro-Palestinian. Hamas is pro-Hamas. The leaders live in Qatar, safely away from the chaos they have created. They are monsters who have no care at all for the Palestinian people

Netanyahu is a monster who is not pro-Israel, but pro-Netanyahu, determined to stay out of prison and to fulfill his horrible vision for this land. I don’t think he cares at all about the hostages

I think Putin has his stink all over this horror. The October 7th massacre reminds me a lot of the terror in Bucha, Ukraine in 2022. And I suspect that Netanyahu might have known about the coming massacre in October, and felt it would be an opportunity to eradicate Palestinians in Gaza and create an excuse for more land grabs in the West Bank, which is abominable

I don’t know that the Biden administration has called for any sanctions against any of the colonists in the West Bank; I don’t think so, because what would sanctions against individual land thieves at this level accomplish? These are not oligarchs coming into the West Bank, but religious zealots. But I don’t know.

My concern is that the protesters have taken up anti-Biden slogans and chants when the current segment of the unending Israeli / Palestinian chaos has brought the progressive “pro-Palestinian” protesters closer to white nationalists. “Jews will not replace us” is not far away from “Death to Israel”, “Death to Jews”, and “From the River to the Sea”.

And if these protests create a mindset to not vote for Biden, I am offering facts about the Biden administration’s goals and policies for Israel and a two-state solution with Palestine that I hope might overcome the adrenaline of protesting and stop the anti-Biden sentiment that seems to be running through the protests.

A second trump administration would be a catastrophe for not only Palestine and for a Netanyahu-free Israel, but for untold people and the entire planet

Thanks for the info. Very good points all. Hamas is the enemy, not the Palestinians.

What you say is not untrue, but it is wildly overstated! Biden has "talked the talk," but he has not "walked the walk." He has from the get-go stood rock-solidly (his words) in Israel's corner. He voted 3 times against a ceasefire, and finally under pressure voted for a non-binding ceasefire. He has never talked with student leaders of the protest and accused them of anti-semitism, which was not true of 99.9% of them. His words are right. His actions are missing. Wake up and smell the coffee, as Ann Landers used to say.

Expand full comment

There are in place defense treaties between the U.S. and Israel along with memorandums of understanding. The Biden administration is obliged to follow these.

I assume your reference to the voting against a ceasefire is about the votes in the UN. These votes are more complicated than a simple yes / no vote. Biden and Blinken have been urging for a ceasefire and a release of the hostages. It is the Netanyahu government and Hamas that refuse to agree.

I have not spoken to any of the protesters on U.S. college campuses nor around the world. Those among them who support a two-state solution and a ceasefire and who haven’t fallen into an antisemitic adrenaline surge need to speak up, because, unfortunately, those chanting “From the River to the Sea” have been the loudest voices of the protests and seem to have circled to join the “Jews will not replace us” crowd. It is a strange confluence when white nationalists and the ceasefire groups join forces. And that the “Jews will not replace us” right wingers are now pro-Israel in this horrific bombing of Gaza. I wonder where everyone will end up with their rhetoric once this particular crises of the seemingly never-ending conflict comes to an end.

There is news today that the U.S. is withholding ammunition from the current aid package to Israel. And the aid package that was passed and signed by Biden includes humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Biden is not in control of the Israeli government. The U.S. does have influence over the Netanyahu regime, but it is not in charge. I think Netanyahu might be waiting out the clock, hoping for a trump election victory. And if that happens, things will be much, much, much, much worse for the Palestinians in Gaza and in the West Bank.

The terror that was started by Hamas on October 7th is unforgivable. And it fed right into what Netanyahu wanted to do with the horrific attacks on Gaza and the terrible support of settlers in the West Bank. If you ask “Who benefits?” from this, I think the answers are Netanyahu, Putin, Hamas, and trump.

Biden is not to blame for the actions of the Israeli government

Other than fine journalists on Substack, there are "papers" available via email and app, such as The Guardian, the largest and most comprehensive and internationally relevant. Smaller but no lesser quality are: Daily Kos, Daily Beast, Truthout, Democracy Docket (Marc Elias, wonderful!), and Alternet (not an exhaustive list). Then there are a number of very LGBTQ+-friendly publications like George Takei's (sorry, I can't think of the name offhand) and Queerty (less political, more cultural).

It's time to work for a big change, to force our news providers to be journalists and not prima donnas, nepo-babies and self-serving fascist-lovers. It means taking away the only thing that moves them: money. Looking for alternatives robs them of advertising dollars.

So we have Donald Trump who is a traitor , insurrectionist ,an election denier ,who tried to STEAL the election , stole our nation's highly classified military documents refused to give them back showed them to our enemies

Admires dictators such as Putin and Orban .

This also goes for the 6 traitorous justices in SCOTUS

So I say to the media You better get busy with being on tbe Right Side of History cause if you don't the only side left is JAIL

The punishment for treason is

JAIL FOR LIFE.

NO EXCEPTIONS.

Frankly the mainstream media, all of it, including msnbc are rubbing their hands in glee at the opportunity to give wall to wall coverage to Trump and his trial. Lots of eyeballs. Scads of profit. I wonder what they will do after he loses the election?

On the other hand, I am thrilled that his energy seems to be waning. I can’t actually believe the polls that say that he and Biden are close. It just doesn’t seem possible.

Polls at this point are meaningless and even questionable.

Real reporters and journalists have many topics to report/comment about. DJT is only taking up the majority of time on MSNBC , for example, because not everyone watches TV in the same hours or days. I watch one channel for political info, a different channel for national news, a financial info channel and assorted online sources from different countries to hear more of a world view. Not every day or 24 hours, of course!

LawrenceO’Donnell always calls Donald’s lies what they are, lies. That’s why Donald scowled at Lawrence as he left court for the lunch break & mumbled something. As far as I’ve heard no one heard what he said

Sigh. I'm even more disgusted with him than I've ever been. I'm so sorry, Mary, that you have the misfortune to be so closely related to him, but I sure do appreciate all the FACTS you bring us. There are so many "truths" but if you have an ounce of intelligence, you cognitively only accept FACTS, which you bring us! Thank you!

The Time Magazine interview is a good read for everyone who wants to learn what Mary already knows about Donald. The transcript reveals that he is dumber than a bucket of hair.

https://time.com/6972022/donald-trump-transcript-2024-election/

The reporter's story about the interview tries to make Donald seem smart and conniving. He wrote the story as though Donald's words and policy concepts are legit. But the transcript--Donald's actual words--say something else. The reporter's conclusion should have been that DJT is a dumbshit.

Not only does Donald try to deceive at every turn, the foundations for his answers are mostly false. He can't reason. He can't answer simple questions with any common sense. He's just a dunderhead. Donald, as Fran Liebowitz has said, is stupider than anyone you know.

Thanks for the Liebowitz comment; it's new to me and I adore her.

Hey, Mary, a thought experiment for you: Why don't you go to Trump's trial one day and sit in the "family box"? You'd be the only one there. I imagine it'd be pretty unnerving for Uncle Don! :)

Thanks for the update, Mary. I don’t think Judge Merchan will let his lawyers quit because he wouldn’t be represented. That can’t happen. And boohoo about Eastman. He should have thought about his career when he got himself mixed up in all this. Oh I wish they would put T in jail for the duration behind the courtroom in solitary. He’s so damn slippery that he slithers out of everything. They need to make him accountable.

Love the fact that the press outside is laughing!

A defendant must be present at his/her trial. It would be a sorry day if that law changed.

Defendants who are in jail are taken to court for their trial and then returned to jail. It happens every day.

-----Seinfeld (TV Series), The Wife (1994)

Jerry : Of the places you go all the time, the dry cleaning relationship is the most bizarre. You give each other the same thing over and over again. He gives it to you. You give it to him. He gives it back to you. It's like it's half his shirt, in a way. He has it as much as you do. You ought to go shopping with him. "What do you think of this shirt? That would look good with a light starch." The only warning label people respect is "dry-clean only." Speed limits, lung cancer, cigarette warnings... Your very life is at stake. People go, "Ah, the hell with it! But dry-clean only? Don't put that in the wash! It's dry-clean only! Are you crazy?"

-----

Over and over we battle back and forth with Donald and his minions. Over and over Mary and other polemisicts, pundits, and politicians warn us that placing Donald back in the White House will surely be the end of American Democracy. Yet too many waffle and waver at all the warnings. Perhaps it's time we place a Dry-Clean Only Label on his pictures so people will pay attention. Donald seems to have no trouble taking those around him to the cleaners. Thank you Mary for this brilliant breakdown. Tomorrow take time to celebrate please!!!!!

Every client is entitled to counsel. Nevertheless, I would never take on a Trump matter. It's clear they're saying what he says to say and behaving as he demands. I would not attach my name in any way to his or sully my reputation to defend him.
