That’s great news! Ppl like you can make the difference. My dad was a Republican, but not the kind I’d ever be embarrassed of. He passed pre DT, but if by some miracle he woke up, (LOL) he would not even recognize that party today. They are domestic terrorists.

"Domestic Terrorists" is a perfect description of the GOP under the Trump Cult. That is beginning to explain a pattern of disturbing upsets. They are sociopathic Dictators working to control/destroy our three Democratic branches. We can see damages underway in Executive/Legislative,Judicial bodies. Scary.

Jane, thank you for your honesty and courage to speak out. I switched parties in 2008 and I haven’t looked back once. I’m grateful you’re with us and it couldn’t happen at a more crucial time. The importance of voting blue in this election is paramount. I’ve never felt more invested in politics as I have this year. I’m no historian, but I’m glad I’ve been paying attention the last several years! Jane, welcome onboard the Blue Wave! 🇺🇸💙

I was an “I like Ike” baby, whose parents both served in WWII and would not believe that their party had embraced a man who tried to overthrow a legitimate election. Thank you for keeping an open mind— though I’m a registered Democrat, I worked in the Reagan Administration and was close friends with some on his VP’s staff. We are the normal ones: we can disagree on public policy, but we value consensus, the rule of law and our constitution. Voting blue is the only patriotic option we have.

The Democrats need to take off the gloves and fist fight the Republicans with their own words, as nasty as that sounds. Show the American people that the Democrats have their interests in hand, not the Republicans.

The press and media need to grow something and truly report on the insanity of Donald's whining speeches.

Age isn’t off the table anymore. DT = oldest to ever run for potus. Those pics of him sleeping throughout his trial, and again at the RNC the other night, don’t bode well.

And, yes, hopefully the media WILL pay attn to him now. Like when he’s slurring through rallies, talking nonsensically, and short circuiting mid sentence. It bothered that the media was so surprised the other night w DT’s RNC speech. I have no idea why. He’s been doing the same things since 2016!

Expand full comment

Kathyincali, you are right about it being strange that the media didn't expect what Trump delivered last week ad the RNC convention. It is because the media has not been really listening to Trump for years. He rarely has anything new to add to his "speeches," has no command of issues except his personal resentment for everyone who is not willing to bow and kiss something he holds as valuable. They have been so obsessed with breaking Biden down for his age, they publicly forgot Trump is Biden's age but less competent no matter what the anti-Biden forces would have people believe. Now it's time for Kamala Harris and a candidate she should choose to work with her, not because of their gender or some other feature but because that person would make a good partner since the work ahead is going to be really hard. Go Kamala, get the media to pay attention, for a change!

I had avoided watching tv after Biden’s announcement but I wanted to see what Lawrence had to say because he always calms me down. Lawrence did that by saying that he firmly believed that Biden could have won because he had seen Biden overcome huge obstacles in the Senate. He used example of FDR - how well he led the country while sick, and compared Joe with him. After that debate Lawrence was not worried because he saw Biden giving the campaign speech next day and a masterful press conference on foreign policy. Lawrence’s words were soothing and sincere. His tone was not combative . He expressed his support for Harris. This meant a lot to me. Thank you Lawrence.

I feel sad that all that Joe had done after that debate was not enough for his detractors. They just didn’t like his age. They wanted a new shiny object. They essentially fired him based on One performance, because they wanted to, without any scruples.

Lawrence supported Kamala as the replacement. Biden again did a masterful job of making a smooth transition. It avoided a potential chaos at the convention.

Another person that believed in Biden is Mary Trump. I am grateful to her too.

At this point I feel that Biden was the best President in recent US history and the best human being. No other President had the level of calmness and compassion of Joe Biden. I had a hard time watching what was being done to him by his own party but he never said one negative word about any of them.

We are witnessing a very special person.

Unfortunately others don’t see his greatness. Their words sound hollow and superficial to me.

I think even Barack Obama came down ia notch in my esteem. He did not realize that Joe could have won. I am a nonbeliever in polls. I intensely dislike Pelosi at this point. I have not warmed up to Harris yet and I am not sure that I will. Lawrence played a speech by her. I found that I could not stand her voice. I never cared for it but now she is running for the highest position so I have higher expectations of her. I didn’t enjoy Biden’s speeches either (a few exceptions ) but I always appreciated how much he had accomplished by overcoming his stutter.

I don’t know if it is appropriate for me to say this but Joe Biden reminds me of Jesus. At the very least he is a very highly evolved being. The real test of a person is in the worst of times, not in the best times.

After his party did such a gross injustice to him, I was angry but he remained gracious. He is genuine. He doesn’t do this to gain votes or praise from others. It is just what he is. I respect him more than I can put into words. I think this crisis revealed his greatness to me.

What his party did to him must have been devastating. He fought for his right to run. He didn’t just roll over to surrender. I don’t really believe that ‘for the good of the country’ stuff that others are saying about it. It sounds fake to me because they are the people who destroyed him.

Biden did not hold it against them . He helped them through a very difficult situation and unified the party. When you compare him with Trump, it is like day versus night, good vs evil, and nay be Angel vs devil? Our country is very fortunate to have him as our leader.

Expand full comment

Vash, I also stood with Biden until I learned while I was in a Zoom session of "progressives" on Sunday that Biden had resigned from the campaign. I, like you, really like Biden and think he is a truly remarkable human being and has been for decades. He did not deserve what certain members of the party and donors did to him. Biden proved over time that he can learn and grow when exposed to new ideas and that is rare. I do like Kamala Harris, though and she was right there with Biden all the way. She will never bad mouth Biden in any way because she actually does appreciate him and what she has learned over time working with him. I depend on people's voices for so much since I can't see people's expressions. I find her voice strident and purposeful telling me she has a lot to do and not much time. Some voices in the past that have bothered me: Richard Nixon from when I was a little kid. He sounded to me like he was always lying and had something to hide. I'd say the first time I was really aware of it was when I was 7. Then there was Ronald Reagan who always sounded as though he was talking down to people and thought he was better than everyone else. I didn't care for him as an actor either. I didn't care much for either Bush's voice the father, because like Reagan, he said words that were supposed to be uniting but were really saying something quite different, then when he nominated Clarence Thomas, I knew I was right, a hypocrite. Baby Bush just sounded out of his element. He often spoke as though he was reading something he only partly understood. Trump of course gives one exactly what he is, nearly all the time, a whiny white boy who thinks only of himself and who thinks the louder he speaks, the better and the more what he is saying will get through. I see none of those negatives in Harris's voice and I am grateful. I never heard any of those negatives in Bidens voice, even when he was struggling with speech. Sincerity and the voice of someone willing to fight for what he believes came through as well as a good sense of humor. Harris has that too. I hope you will come to appreciate her speaking voice and in particular, what she has to say.

She is used to facing a-holes in court and wouldn't let him stalk her and would have some choice words for him to back off and stay in his own lane, but said far more eloquently. And with only one serious debate candidate, take that show on the road.

But contrary to Joe, Kamala is capable of forcefully refuting whatever lies he spews that she chooses (since they come out so fast, it's useless to try to rebut every one) & knocking him down flat. But I agree with others, it Trump knows what's good for him, he'll avoid any debate with Harris, unless he's hopelessly behind in the polls, & even then I'd bet on him not accepting a debate with her.

Expand full comment

In the big picture, there’s just not time to devote to Trump lies. It would take like 9 days. Screw that. Campaign.

Expand full comment

That's why I say be selective.

Trump has so many vulnerabilities, & has done & stands for so many awful things, so it's important that people are fully aware of at least the most egregious things. And remember he likes to conceal evidence & facts. Why? Because there are things he doesn't want us to know, that he's embarrassed about, that he's guilty of, from his college grades to his tax returns to his medical records to his many secret contacts with Putin & other Russian officials, agents & oligarchs, to the classified government documents he confiscated, some of which he passed onto other people, most likely including Putin & MBS, to whatever was in "Ivana's coffin" (speaking of Ivana, her suspicious but uninvestigated death is yet another matter whose details he's hiding), to the Epstein files (now we know why, since it substantiates rumors of Trump's sexual assault against underaged girls, which corporate mainstream media don't want to touch), to the postponed (likely ultimately cancelled) criminal trials of Trump, including the 3 most damaging ones -- his recorded pressure on Georgia officials to falsify election results on his behalf (1 of multiple such attempts on multiple states, but we hear almost nothing about the other states); his confiscation of top secret government documents that he kept at home in places accessible to many guests from all over the world, including China, Saudi Arabia, etc. (many in a room with a copier, which was likely used to copy the documents & send them to who knows whom); & his part in conceiving, planning, preparing, organizing & inciting the Capitol Insurrection & assassination attempts on his VP & the House Speaker among other high officials & to overturn the results of the 2020 election. So yes, we must get out such information, much of which many people either don't know or have been falsely made to believe are hoaxes, along with plenty of evidence supporting these facts.

At the same time, the Democrats have to point out the great successes of the Biden/Harris administration in spite of many challenges, including obstruction & sabotage from the Republican Party, their intention to continue this process, keeping many of the architects of this success, while dismissing some of those who haven't lived up to their duties, such as Merrick Garland & Louis Dejoy, to improve upon their weaknesses or failings (such as failure to hold accountable conspirators to violently overturn the 2020 election), to outline what they hope to accomplish in the future (including much further climate action, addressing economic injustice & wealth & power disparity, housing costs & homelessness, enhanced Medicare & Social Security, strengthening democracy & the judicial system, etc.). That's a tall task ahead of them, and Kamala Harris, or whoever is their nominee, will need help from her Democratic colleagues to make the case. But if they do it successfully, victory is inevitable.

But please choose wisely her running mate. Don't consider demographics or geographical location only, but make qualifications a centerpiece, including experience, competence, eloquence, wisdom, toughness, sharpness, integrity, character, ability to solve problems, and you will get someone whose qualifications are in such stark contrast to Trump & Vance that it should be easy for Democrats to win in a landslide, which they must do.

Expand full comment

Darrell, yes, the media is a problem. I keep hearing it is because they are all corporate and maybe that is true. So, what are we going to do about it? Maybe the media would be roused for Democrats if there were a ticket like Harris-Sec. Pete (I don't have the spelling of his name down yet either even though I have tried often). They gave Trump all the attention in 2016 while they left Hillary Clinton hanging out to dry because she actually had ideas and wanted to make a positive difference for real people (boring). Maybe this time, the media will give attention to a team that would be great for our nation and unique, and note that Trump-Vance are just old hat and don't need to be covered much because there is nothing new. Maybe?

Expand full comment

Ruth, I wish I could believe that the MSM would give good attention to Harris and her VP pick. I hadn't thought about Secretary Pete Buttigieg (wow, I got his spelling correct on the first try!), but I agree that he would be an excellent choice.

I have been here since Truman and listened to Cronkite and Rather because they told me truth. If media and the press ignore what Trump-Vance say, they are complicent in the lies. If they don't report what the Republicans are saying and pushing, then they are not serving the American people. The Republicans have made nastiness and criminality a performing art, rather than trying to serve America. Lester Holt and the rest have real trouble saying anything bad about Donald even though it is The Truth.

Just not the right time for someone this young and also not the right time to try to woo away from Trump with a gay male and a woman of colour both running at top posts. I have no issue with "Mayor Pete", his husband or family or any gay people whatsoever. But too many Americans still do for this to be a winning strategy. Needs to be someone who has a lot more experience running an entire state. Yes but some Republicans and many pretty fundamentalist Christians as well as some registered Independents ALSO need to find 'sanctuary" within the Democratic party for this vote to defeat Project 25 and also to defeat Trump. You have to be able to appeal to a wider range than only democrats to get rid of this true menace to Democracy. He is polite, he is a proven military service man, he has many excellent qualities. I think though he needs more experience in Congress, or Senate, or leading a state to be a VP with a new President who is also younger side. Think he might be fine IF it were not such a dicey situation and if he got more Governing experience. He should perhaps run for Governor in his home state in 2 years to get that sort of experience. Mayor and Cabinet Secretary are not the same sort of job as VP. Personally I like him. But I think someone with governing experience is also needed on this ticket besides former VP Harris.

Linda, OMG! I had exactly the same idea. They would complement each other, both caring, kind, decent human beings, but each with a different style of getting things done! I don't know whom Harris will pick, but Pete was my first thought too.

I too am secretly hoping she picks Pete Buttigieg as her running mate, although with some caveats: the betting money currently seems to be on Democratic governors such as Josh Shapiro; there is also an argument to be made in favor of retaining the same cabinet.

Yes he did step right up…the right guy at the right time in the fall of 2020 and he righted this sinking ship of a nation.👏🏼 For that I will always be grateful. Now the rug has been pulled out from under us and yet again we WILL coalesce!👊🏼🗳️💙

Well, you could also say that we now have a much less slippery rug underneath us. I prefer grippy rugs, especially during a dark icy winter.

Expand full comment

Actually, our rug hasn't been pulled out from beneath us, if we choose Kamala as our nominee. She's already vice president. She's already got the people's vote. She has the legal right to her and Joe's joint war chest.

The Trump campaign is another matter. They are going to have to scrap their campaign strategy and start from scratch - particularly if Kamala is able to differentiate herself sufficiently from Hillary that the Trump campaign can't use their experience campaigning against Hillary as a starting point, and to avoid Hillary's errors.

Apart from the baggage that Hillary brought into the race, there's also the issue of Jim Comey and announcing another email investigation a couple of weeks before the election. I think that was the final straw in that election.

That plus Russia was not a good combination for our country!

Expand full comment

Unfortunately, in today's day and age, we have to treat Russia as a given, and have an explicit strategy to deal with it effectively.

Expand full comment

True. We have to figure out how to ensure there isn't a repeat performance of that situation with Comey.

Expand full comment

Karol, you just reminded me of the fact that Christopher Wray is also a republican. Hopefully he is a better person than Comey, who respects elections, and Ms. Harris doesn't have the same kind of baggage trailing her.

Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address

“Fellow countrymen: at this second appearing to take the oath of the presidential office there is less occasion for an extended address than there was at the first. Then a statement somewhat in detail of a course to be pursued seemed fitting and proper. Now, at the expiration of four years during which public declarations have been constantly called forth on every point and phase of the great contest which still absorbs the attention and engrosses the energies of the nation little that is new could be presented. The progress of our arms, upon which all else chiefly depends is as well known to the public as to myself and it is I trust reasonably satisfactory and encouraging to all. With high hope for the future no prediction in regard to it is ventured.”

Like Lincoln, this is a time to move forward and unify our nation and defeat the rise of fascism around the world. This is our time to rise up and become the New Greatest Generation. Thank you Mary for marching us towards victory with mallice towards none.

Thank you, Mary! I am hopeful, too. President Biden will be remembered as the right man at the right time for America! I am so pleased he continues to put the nation before himself. He is a true statesman! God bless him! Green light on Kamala!!! You go, girl!!!

And, the opposite of what Trump says of him, Biden will be remembered as one of the best and most effective Presidents.

Mac, and Biden isn't done yet. He has another 6 months left to see what can be done. I hope he will use the presidential immunity SC decision to send the ERA, already ratified by sufficient states, to the archivist and add it to the Constitution over the unconstitutional time limits placed on it by scared white men 40+ years ago. That would be a great going away present from him to all of us.

IMHO, some people are underestimating Harris. She is a prosecutor and she will treat the GOP Nominee as the perpetrator he is.

It’s not about whether she is good. It’s about the racism and anti women culture . Those are big hurdles to overcome.

There are more women than men in America! The women will save us!

If the majority of women remember to stick together!

My feeling is a VP like Mark Kelly will help balance the ticket.

We women, more than ever, need to stick together to fight the bias against them and the continued racism that is still prevalent.
