I stumbled across this chart on Twitter recently (an earlier version of this came from gatesnotes.com):
My immediate thought was, “Why are we so awful to sharks?” (And I also wondered why car drivers weren’t considered humans). My second was that the chart was woefully incomplete. Something important was missing and I wanted to set the record straight. Which I’ll do in a second.
First, I had planned to spend the day catching up with and responding to your great comments but I got my Pfizer booster last night and had a reaction very similar to the one I experienced after my first shot—a very swollen and sore arm, a lot of aches, a fever, chills. Also like the first shot, I have never been so glad to be sick. In about two weeks I will be 95.6% protected against COVID-19—not to mention at very little risk for serious illness or Long Covid, hospitalization, and at practically no risk of death if I were to get sick. As somebody who has had very bad asthma for most of my life this is extraordinary.
Back to the chart. Here’s my revision, which I think makes it much more accurate:
(Note the + sign.)
So, basically, sharks > Donald. I wish we would act accordingly.
I’m going to go sleep this booster shot off. Please stay safe and please get vaccinated. More tomorrow.
It must be really hard to have an uncle who is also one of the most effective serial killers of all time. I am truly sorry for the burden that brings with it. It's hard having a conscience and self-awareness but I am glad someone in the Trump dynasty does.
I was eating dinner when I opened your email. Promptly spit out the bite I’d taken as I laughed loud enough to scare my cats. Then shook my head in sadness because you are quite correct. I wish there was a way to hold him accountable for crimes against humanity.
I reacted the same to my Moderna shots as you are to your Pfizer shot. Took a few days each time to feel better but not once, even when I was shaking so hard I couldn’t sleep and ran the chapstick across my cheek, did I regret getting vaccinated. Wishing you well.
