E. Jean! I tried my hand at some tech writing recently :/

AI is coming and I thought I’d put together a rounded article—would love your eyes and insights 😊 https://tumbleweedwords.substack.com/p/ai-enters-our-everyday-reflections

First of all, thank you for reminding me that I have a large vocabulary. I must remember to use it more often.

Secondly, thank you thank you thank you for saying out loud what I've been thinking for the past 3 years, if not longer. I am tired of horse race journalism and speculative politics. Traditional journalism is failing us, and we need more pointed, more analytical, and more ethical reporting than what I've seen from the major broadcasters.

And last but not least, thank you for writing this article as it gave me something to concentrate on while that trailer park nightmare is on 60 Minutes. I ran away from the South to get away from people like her. The last thing I need is to see her on my Sunday night TV show. Merci.

Don't forget how Reagan's campaign team went to middle east governments during his election vs president Carter and they advised those governments to tell Iran to hold off release of our American hostages until he was president and they would get a better deal.

If that's not treason also, then I don't know what is. Might also explain the Iran Contra scandal better now too.

Just think 🤔 how much better this country would have been without 40 years of trickle down economics and tax cuts for the rich?

True!

That didn't happen. You'll recall that the hostages were released prior to Regan's inauguration. They were released because the Iranians feared the wrath of a real president.

You need to read the article by the NY times where the ex Lt Gov under ex Gov Connolly was invited by Reagan's campaign team leader William Casey who was later head of CIA to visit the neighboring middle east capitals of Iran 🇮🇷 to have those governments advise Iran that they could get a better deal from Reagan than Carter. The only reason this guy has come forward is because Carter is dying. The reason why the hostages came home is because Carter worked up until just hours before Reagan's inauguration to make sure they got home, not because of anything Reagan did, even though he claimed credit for it. If you don't believe me, check any history book you want, unless you prefer to make up your own like so many of today's new GOP insurrectionists do too

They were released on Reagan’s Inauguration Day 1/20/81. Hmmmmm

When the indictment was announced, I expected the Republicans to spew out lies and baseless accusations. The mainstream media got caught up in pointless speculation on what charges will be brought. A few journalists pointed the folly of the later, and the despicable responses of the former. All to be expected.

I was, however, bitterly disappointed by Leslie Stahl's interviewing MTG. I thought she was better and smarter than that.

Right there with you on Stahl. I yelled a few choice words when I saw the trailer on Saturday. I'm rarely on FB anymore but I jumped on to see what others were thinking about the trailer. Seems we are not alone. Haven't watched the interview yet. I'd like to think Stahl pressured MTG on her down right horrible actions since being elected but to be honest I'm afraid my BP will go through the roof because she will not ask the tough questions. Seen that happen one to many times with Stahl and others. Wouldn't it be great if MTG were interviewed by Mary! Of course, MTG would never agree to interview where she would be thoroughly exposed for the POS she is.

Thank you, Mary. It is so hard not to despair, but you help me postpone giving in to it completely.

Well stated. Thank you for your perspective and honesty. It truly does see that our system has been turned upside down. I liked the historical perspective as well. It validates that those wrongs unaddressed or swept to the side in the past have had a significant impact on the current problems we face. If we do not deal with the issues presented before us at the time of occurrence, they do come up again. History indeed repeats itself. This time it is even more treacherous.

Maybe so, but in psych we have the repetition compulsion.

Thank you Mary for all of this. I've been thinking some of the very same things. I fear that it will be the weak and feckless Democrats and MSM that bring on the Christofascism due to their inaction.

Good read!

This is what happens when short term goals are valued more than long term ones, which so often happens in politics...

Mary,

It would be helpful to include reference links to your facts like Heather Cox Richardson. It is not that I don’t believe you. References help others to understand facts. Thank you for your great articles. I just signed up as paid subscriber.

Great idea on the references because when one is talking to an R who thoroughly believes that Fox et al are the holy grail when it comes to "news" it's great to be able to say "you don't have to believe me, here's the historical records. Look it up for yourself." Will they do it? Maybe, maybe not but even if one or two start seeing how much they've been lied to it's a start.

Thank you Mary. I think the election of Trump and the decline of American journalism (which has been captured and monopolized by plutocrats) presents sort of a chicken and egg question. All I can surmise is that back in the day, journalists would expose grifters prior to the election and grifters would get weeded out more frequently than occurs today. I’m going with this: the decline of journalism allowed an autocrap (not a typo) like Trump to be elected in the first place. So journalism is the chicken and Trump is the egg.
