Thank you, Mary. 💙

Your quote explains a lot about people not wanting to think for themselves:

"These men are cowards who grovel at the feet of an authoritarian, not because they believe in him, but because they desire power or protection."

They really need to get someone who can interview these weirdos! Stop letting them talk over the interviewer and avoid answering questions. Trump & Vance deflect, deny and lie constantly!

A good sign of someone who is comfortable in their own skin is to listen/watch how they laugh. Harris and Walz both have genuine laughs, spontaneous laughs, joyful laughs. Vance laughs like he thinks there’s a joke and he’s supposed to get it, but he’s not quite sure and halfway suspects the joke is on him. And Trump never laughs at all.

That's why this "Kamala removes stubborn orange stains" t-shirt is more alive than ever 🤣 👇

Vance laugh is eerily similar to Ron DeSantis' goofy, self conscious laugh. JD should not talk about not feeling comfortable in your own skin.

They both project their own character flaws on to their opponents! Never seen such clear examples of a man who projects just about every time he says something as in DJT and JDV too now. Maybe it’s catching? Excellent analysis Mary thank you!

That quote got me too. Mary nailed it. Power is the ends thru any means.

Expand full comment

Mary,

I want to thank you again for your hope honesty and courage reporting truth to power with evidence. We are in this together.

Expand full comment

Christopher, that truth to power "with evidence" is so right! I am constantly being told by republicans that this didn't happen or that wasn't said and I have to prove with evidence that it's true. Even when I do, they still will not believe it! The orange man and his running mate spew lies constantly with absolutely NO evidence to back it up! They will say they have it but never, ever produce it! I infuriates me that gullible people just take their word for everything they say but will not believe something that has tangible proof right in front of them! Vote blue, America!

Expand full comment

I watched Rachel Madow last night. She showcased a new book The Ministry of Truth with the word truth showing a line through it by Steve Benen. It explores the devious Republican strategy to convince the American people that what they saw with their own eyes, what they lived through didn't happen or didn't happen the way they remember it. The Republicans need to do this because as long as people remember Trump's political and criminal atrocities, like Jan 6, trying to steal an election, they won't vote Republican and they will lose power. Sounds like an important read.

Thanks for the heads up on that book, Cindy. I will definitely read it!

Peggy, I, too, don't understand the acceptance of actual lies and dismissal of truth. My sister is trolled a lot and when she asked the nearly always men for evidence, they say things like "it's plain to see" or "I don't need evidence, I just know, and you are just ignorant," or similar comments. When she presents strong evidence of what she has said, they dismiss it and come up with all kinds of ridiculous excuses for why they are right and she, a "c-word" is just stupid. It's interesting that on Facebook for example, they can call women the "c-word" but if she says a comment of theirs is ridiculous or ignorant, she gets "put in Facebook jail." Anyone who wonders if the AIs and algorithms that "monitor" our social media are racist and misogynistic, just try using a male vs. a female name and say the same thing that is mildly insulting for the female and very insulting for the male and see what happens. It is disgusting, but with child-men in charge of our social media, with few if any exceptions, one can see why, and why so much misinformation and actual lying goes on and is not stopped.

Expand full comment

Ruth, I am sorry to hear what your sister is having to endure! It is pathetic! The "it's plain to see" and "I don't need evidence, I just know, and you're just ignorant" are phrases used by people that are faced with the truth and simply cannot handle it! They resort to attacking the person just like the orange man does.

Jacqueline, that's the problem for Trumpers and Trumpettes, they are not living in reality, and they are angry and frustrated that no one else except their bubble mates are living where they are. They can hear nothing negative about their Baby Donnie and they protect him the way they think a mom would protect her child. He does have so many characteristics of a toddler and younger that one can see that some people might be drawn to that. I don't think there is any way to reach them, but that does not mean we shouldn't try. Thanks for being there and trying.

Vance genuinely has no soul. A craven opportunist that believes in nothing is the last person on earth we should want in the White house. It is genuinely astonishing that Trump found a guy even worse than him to be his running mate. Shouldn't have been possible, but here we are.

Lois, I do believe Vance has no working conscience or moral compass of any kind. I would love an investigative reporter to actually check out Vance's story in "Hillbilly Elegy." I wonder just how much of it was true or made up by a guy who wanted some kind of sympathy from people who don't really care about truth. He slandered the people of Appalachia yet claims to care about them so much, or something. If they find things are not true, Vance will just claim ""literary license" or something.

So Donald found himself a litle clone and someone who said he would do what Pence refused to do.

And JD seems to be replicating Donalds classic narcissistic behavior...

These are known tactics of narcissistic people:

Deflecting – Shifting attention from themselves onto others.

Putting others into defensive mode – Rather than facing and admitting responsibility for their actions, they attack others.

Lying to look better – Try to look better by putting down others.

Victim-blaming and Playing the victim – Pretends to be strong, calls others weak, bullies and abuses people, then acts like the victim when challenged or called out.

These behaviors are not presidential, nor serving society, they are exclusively self-serving and deceptive.

What is it about these guys that need foreign wives, like Donnie, too? Are they in such need of shoring up their male superiority, that their wives don’t speak English as a a first language. So their fragile egos always knows the wifey, is always speaking English as a second language? Odd too, since they’re are so anti-immigrant. Yet not immigrants with thick accents, Ivana & Melania, their wives parents are the immigrants. In JD’s it’s his wife’s parents who are foreign born. The relationship dynamics are weird.

Expand full comment

I read that one of the deeds Trump/Vance want to change on immigration that marriage to an American does not give them American citizenship that they will immediately strip them of their American citizenship and ship them right out of here. I would wish the media would ask them if both of their wives would be on the first boat out of here?

Karen, and which of those "reporters" would ask such a question. And even if they did, they would have excuses that "they have been here so long . . ." or some other such nonsense. One thing I have "noted" is that neither Trump nor Vance seem to have much respect for their wives. It may be they can't manage any kind of positive affect toward anyone, including their wives. Interesting line of thought!

Kali, my mother always had the theory that men who were low self-confidence married Black or immigrant women, because those women would let them be the boss, they would be more compliant. I think she was right…

You're wrong about Black women. I've been married to a wonderful, well-educated, highly accomplished Black man for 28+ years. We both had full-ride university scholarships and great careers. I'm a retired metallurgical engineer.

My husband and I are happily childfree. He has a large extended family we're close to. The Black women in our family (and our many Black female friends and previous colleagues) are strong, intelligent women who put up with no crap whatsoever with guys in their lives.

I owe you an apology Colleen. I thought about what I had written, and thought about changing it, but wasn't sure how. I think that some of that might have been true back in the 50s. But I know that Black women are strong and intelligent, and I have great respect for them. Ditto for Asian women. In the final analysis, I think I was seeing prejudice, without realizing it. Thank you for setting me straight and reminding me of what I see every day. I did not mean to insult anybody, and I'm sorry to everyone who had a problem with what I said.

Kali, hmmm! I hadn't thought of that before. It does give a different perspective on their misogyny and their hatred of immigrants. They think being married to immigrants or the children of immigrants they are off the hook for behaving well. After all, they are MARRIED to immigrants, so they are just "concerned" about those OTHER immigrants! I am going to think more about the implications. I know that Moscow Mitch is married to an Asian-American woman. I wonder how many other Republican men in power have taken the same route or remain single as Lindsay Graham has. Interesting! Thanks.

John, I keep wondering why inciting insurrection is not a crime. Are we waiting for those criminals, Vance a criminal in training to do massive harm to this nation before even trying to act or even call them out? That makes no sense, but since it is going on 4 years since Trump's last insurrection incitement, I am guessing even our Department of Justice, Supreme Court, media are OK with pretending Trump and Vance are normal and worthy opponents to Harris and Walz; they're not. However, the media will have "great" stories of the violence that could arise if Trump and Kump act as they are promising. So, money and views are all that count for our current media and who knows what the DOJ and Supreme Court cons get. Shame!

I hear you I don’t understand a few things and it has nothing to do that I’m hitting seventy next month. First why did all of the minions of January 6 th get immediately picked up and punished ( if you want to except small prison sentences ) and the beyond proof of the master minds don’t get even a hand slap? Not just Trump how about Jordan and hundreds of other politicians? I’m still not clear about the proof that the January 7 th investigation they did a great job but they aren’t allowed to prosecute? They say it’s up to us to just vote? Come on half of the nation due to Fox News are convinced that it was okay because he was the president and that his minions should all be released from jail because they have openly said several times that they were taking commands from President Trump?

Second Fox News ( they recently have been through seventeen separate law suits claiming they are not a news channel that they are entertainment so they can get by lying all they want last year they were ordered to drop “ news” yet it’s still there

I have reread everything I can get my hands on about “Freedom of Speech “ it’s never been legal to yell fire in a public movie theater “ the new hate crimes passed by congress aren’t being used for anything except for Americans like us I’m sure if we do anything stupid we get nailed immediately Trump is doing treasonous acts for eight years?

Third I take great interest in the MAGA message let’s make America great Again does that include going back to 1960 that yes treason was punished by hanging?

Expand full comment

Carin, wow! A lot of great points and I don't really know the answer to the way Trump's treachery was handled or rather not handled. It seems that if one has enough money, one can escape almost any accountability. I do not know why Garland only went after the minions, probably because he thought it was easier and that maybe we would forget about the big guys over time. He is pretty much right, so Trump has not faced any accountability for his incitement of insurrection and so many people call what happened on January 6th, a riot; it wasn't it was insurrection! Then there's the cry that "he told us to come and . . ." That excuse went by the wayside when Germans used it to explain their horrific actions during WWII. I suspect our main courts won't accept it, but who knows about our Supreme court cons; they are really into autocracy as long as they are helping to call the shots. We minions are always the ones who suffer for the deeds of the rich and powerful. It should not be that way and we should not permit it to remain that way, but unless we demand better, it is not likely we will get better.

Expand full comment

Ruth and Carin, I think the problem with Garland is that he is a wimp. He didn't want to make political waves, after the way trump's DOJ did. That's not a good excuse. I personally think he didn't have the courage to go after trump.

Expand full comment

Susan, we sure do get a lot of wimps as Dems and just keep them in office even though they accomplish so little. I don't get it because there are so many things the DOJ could have corrected and as far as I know they have done nothing to respond to threatening insurrection as Trump, Vance, and the rest of the Klan have done. Appalling! Clearly we're stuck with Garland for the rest of Biden's term, but I sure hope Harris can find someone better who is not afraid to make waves and wants to make a lot of them in the right directions.

Expand full comment

You are so right, Ruth. I'm sure there are many good AG candidates out there, but the first one that comes to mind is Josh Shapiro. From what I've seen of him, he is measured, but not afraid of anything. I have no idea what kind of pressure an AG works under. I'm hoping that a courageous one would have the guts to prosecute all those congressmen and senators who clearly deserve it. They could all go to prison together and have a really bit party. BTW I would want to know that they would be sentenced to a real prison, not to ClubFed.

Expand full comment

Yes; to me this is exactly why no one, particularly Biden, should have agreed to “ debate” Bozo, who can’t put 2 words together but can be aggressive as hell. I feel like if anyone can it’s Harris. Trumps choice of Vance exemplifies the kind of minds that want to control our government in the next term. Unfortunately, a lot of Americans are struggling with the cost of living. A daily crisis that they’ve been brainwashed to believe Trump can fix for them. Unfortunately, he’s too dump and self involved to do anything that doesn’t enrich either him or his buddies. It’s disturbing to realize that the average salary for someone in the House or Senate is roughly $175k and yet they are all millionaires! Or that the majority of Senators stock portfolios out performed the S&P by about 30% this year alone! It’s time for transparency in the House, Senate and Supreme Court- and if Trump wins it will be a cold day in hell before transparency in any part of the government will exist. Here’s what really gets under my skin is the cost of groceries and that our government has control of prices I had started my own food business back in 1980 and was well aware of the game of manufacturing for big food chains I sold my business in 2002 . The government has absolutely no control whatsoever on what the prices are at the grocery stores. They are all privately owned companies some very small like myself and some thousands of times larger . The manufacturer of any food item has to pay shelf space exactly the same as renting a building space

then there are many other cost that they also pay such as bill backing if my product doesn’t sell at a rate as milk or bananas manufacture gets a charge. Much more to know but that’s a start

. Let’s use Walmart as an example they buy my product at 50 cents a jar they charge $7.99 I nor the government has no laws in place because again it’s a privately owned business For any president to say he’s going to lower cost on any item is a big lie President Biden can’t call me nor Walmart and say look it’s ridiculous how much your charging for your products I want that to be half the price. First it’s illegal for any President to make rules for private companies. If he did it would no longer be a capitalist government it would be communist or some say socialism. Now you’re probably thinking about what about medication like insulin? That falls under a different category because the manufacturers are putting citizens into a life or death situation government first and most important job is to PROTECT their citizens hence Biden got insulin down from $600 to $35 a amazing accomplishment. Oil/ gas prices they fall under many trade acts where the governments not only can have free will to add taxes no one mentions that Biden has cut federal taxes on oil now state taxes which are usually the highest on oil haven’t budged . It goes on and on What every American needs to understand is that what their government can or cannot do and the flip of a coin on capitalism governments. Yet I see add after add from Trump and his buddies at Fox News lie every day to the people of this country they are absolutely abusing the American people by their lies and worst then that they are laughing all the way to the bank on the innocent ignorance of the American people

JD Many Names.

Expand full comment

I totally agree that JD Vance is a phony who will do or say anything to gain power. But he has some pretty valid reasons for his changes of name.

His parents named him James Donald Bowmam, but they divorced when he was a toddler. His mother remarried and renamed him James David Hamel. That marriage ended rather quickly also. So, he had no choice about his first two names. He used this name until he was in his late 20s. Before he entered Yale Law School, he changed his last name to Vance, the name of his maternal grandparents who raised him during most of his childhood.

This is a pretty common kind of story for Americans in the last few decades of broken families, blended families, etc.

There's plenty of things that JD Vance has done that merit criticism, but I do not believe his name is one of them.
