Honestly, no one captures the moment quite like you, Mary: "it was like watching an Aikido master redirect her opponent’s greatest strengths in order to render them useless." We're lucky to have both you and E. Jean in democracy's corner.
Mary, I read your book over a year ago. Thank you for that, and for being there somehow to balance out the evil of your uncle. (Hard to believe you come from the same family!)
And count me as yet another person who is grateful to E. Jean for going after that SOB, despite how hard it must have been for her to go anywhere near him after what he did to her. She's fighting not just for herself, but for all of us.
I still watch Anderson Cooper and learned a lot from his “Whole Story” on Sunday night - the Darien Gap where migrants trek through dangerous conditions to reach our southern border. AC is humane.
I've liked Anderson Cooper, and I agree with what he says in this clip about the importance of not listening to only people or media with whom you agree.
However, he acknowledged that it's not feasible to fact check a live event. If so, then CNN should have taped the event and fact checked it in a subsequent broadcast. Their giving TFG an hour of free rein to spout his lies and their cherry-picking an audience that was totally pro TFG was contemptible, which is why I will not watch CNN again. I want my news sources to be reliable and if not impartial then at least honest and open to self-criticism and acknowledging errors of fact or judgment.
I used to respect Anderson, but have lost most of that because of his "silo" comments. He was incredibly condescending, saying in essence that if we didn't watch their staged pep rally for Trump, then we were being closed minded. Nope. There are MANY other ways to keep abreast of what the man says, and the staged event on CNN is one of the worst ones.
On the one hand, I can fully appreciate that thinking... but if we pause and step back and look at the big picture, his hands are completely tied... reality: On short notice and "in the breech" he can not go nuclear on his own network, it would be foolish... let him move on and publish his "post CNN" thoughts and the true Anderson will reveal.
Thank you for your thoughts this morning (it is Monday here in Australia). I actually tried to explain the “town hall” (which I did NOT watch) to my Australian partner and the more I described it the more I wanted to scream cry. Instead I wrote to my heroine E Jean and sent her all my love and support for what is a win. And Ginger Rodgers --perfect ❤️
I believe it was Ann Richards, in her keynote address at the 1988 DNC convention noted that Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did only backwards and in high heels. She also famously said that GHW Bush was “born with a silver foot in his mouth.” Another strong, accomplished woman sadly missed on the current political stage. Kudos to E. Jean and her tenacity, strength, and resolve.
I miss Annie so very much, and console myself by remembering when I cast my vote for her. That time thirty years ago was wonderful here in Texas - the last time we were blue.
Another incredible woman I miss is Molly Ivins: "I prefer someone who burns the flag and then wraps themselves up in the Constituion over someone who burns the Constitution and then wraps themselves up in the flag."
And the third strong woman who rounded out the fabulous Texas Triumvirate of that time was The Voice Of God Herself Barbara Jordan.
A painting by J.M.W.Turner was a perfect way to start this week. The colors mixed as the sea brings them to froth., Like your uncle on his CNN let the wild animal out of the cage show.
But being the great psychologist you are, you tamped down the passions about Uncle Donald with some Fred Astaire and Ginger Rodgers
You write beautifully, Mary. You think beautifully, too. Thank you for posting today. I agree with Joyce that you capture this moment we are living through so uniquely. I believe you were describing the masterful work of Robby Kaplan, E Jean’s lawyer.

E. Jean is the best of us. None better, and the highest of examples to follow. Mesmerizingly brave.
Is it too much to hope that E Jean Carroll keeps suing every time she is defamed by him?
Not if we let her know we support her.

May your coffee always be excellent.
Your book is on my Kindle. Plan to read it next.
May Trump spend his golden years in orange.
The Rosenberg's did less than Donald, and they were awarded the death penalty.
Sadly a total truth 💣
They were incomparable.
Brava to E. Jean.
I haven't watched CNN for quite a while now, and I didn't watch the town hall and will never watch CNN again.

You assume he had only two options and are ignoring the dozens of shades-of-gray options he had between condescension and "going nuclear".

Thank you, Mary. I am VERY HAPPY for E Jean Carroll! Take Care. 💙

Ann Richards walked on water.

Oh, how I miss them all terribly.
beautifully put... all pillars of society in their own way 👍👍🎯
You are such a warrior soul. I was wondering how you were feeling this week. From one Mary to another, hang in there kiddo.
Hi Mary, I had this thought today: if Donald never takes the stand in his own defense why would any network ever give him free time? Just saying!
E. Jean has performed heroically for all of us! Thank you E.Jean!

Absolutely love Shall We Dance. Thx for the clip.
My word of the year is impunity. But you reap what you sow sooner or later and parts of our nation have thrived under impunity.

Topped it all off with Ginger and Fred!! 🌈
