I am a paid subscriber and I have no problem if you don't give me special perks. I do it to support you, not to be privy to exclusive content. The future of our country is too important not to help you expose the truth.

I can't imagine sending a swear-filled email or message demanding something for free that Mary has spent hours laboring over every day.

What's the word I'm trying to think of? Oh yeah... "entitled".

Expand full comment

"Serious" could be a closet MAGA plant/a spy from the St.Petersburg false information factory. Mary has the right to do what she needs to do in order to save democracy. Case closed!!!

Expand full comment

Very likely just intimidation from Maga Cult members. Not to worry. The martyr uncle is working them.

Yes Kate.......Could have been one of the 5 MAGA protesters that showed up outside the courtroom.....LOL LOL

Good One!!! But they probably can't write, either.

Yea...all 5 could have been doing the Orange "Accordian Hands" routine together........since they cannont read.

Another term we are all familiar with - "malignant narcissus."

Mary recently used the term "narcissistic injury." I googled it -- buckle up, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

I don't t understand what " behind a paywall" means, help me out, somebody. I'm an 80-year young subscriber & can't figure that phrase out. 👋🤨💯

Mary, I grew up in Harlem & I love your candid words . So you just keep on informing all of us here bcz MSM sure isn't.

Love it when you show up on MSNBC.

So your brother capitulated, huh?

Keep 🔥💯🎤🌹

Behind a paywall means you need to be a paid subscriber to read/see it. Mary does not put much behind a paywall and the subscription is only $6 per month. She’s so worth supporting if you can afford it.

Expand full comment

Mary words her subscription info so well. $60 per year, or $5 per mo., the cost of one coffee. I know I can skip one take out coffee per mo. to learn from Mary. Love this community here. 💙

Expand full comment

Hi five from one 80 to another!

Expand full comment

Hey I didn't get Paywall either! I had to look it up, and it appears to be a fancy way of referring to subscriptions. Somebody is trying to make a big deal out of nothing, and trying to be important. But, paywall is not really part of trendy lexicon at the moment, so the effort is lost. I read about 6 newspapers a day, NYT, WaPo, the big ones, and nope, that word is not common! Can't remember last time that I saw it, maybe pre computers? And that is my analysis of the goon that sent that nasty letter!

Expand full comment

"Paywall" is when you click on a news link, and only the article title appears. NYT has one, as does The LA Times, San Fran Chronicles, and both of my area's local papers

Oh gawd sorry, had forgotten about that. Yes, thank you!

People don't understand that writing and art are WORK. They thin it looks fun, so it must just be a hobby. 🙄

To say nothing of the expensive education that Mary got in order to be able to speak with authority on the subject of her uncle's many mental disorders. Thank you, Mary.

Expand full comment

as an artist I expect to be paid for my work. Mary is well within her rights to expect payment for her writings. I can't afford to pay for subscriptions as much as I would like to support the writers. Just as I cannot afford to buy some of my favorite artists/friends art. I don't ask for special favors. I just seek more info elsewhere. I appreciate Mary's efforts..we are all on the same page against her uncle!

Shoot, I'm happy to support her. Especially after today!

We all know about the "entitled" now, don't we? lol

Great comment! I know, right? Paywall? That's hilarious, considering what she is asking us to contribute. It's cheaper than most streaming apps! And the Paywall is used so infrequently, bless Miss Trump's heart! The heck with them, we know a good investment.

I too am a paid subscriber and forgot to add that to my comment of a few minutes ago. I am glad I can support your work and provide your family perspective and also professional view as to the seemingly destructive life of Donald Trump

Expand full comment

Well said. I’m a Canadian 🇨🇦 paid subscriber, your neighbour to the North, if you will. I agree 💯. I would like to add that what happens in this election has an effect worldwide. I grew up on the Canadian side of Lake Huron and have family on both sides of the border. Mary, your newsletter keeps me updated on the political climate in the United States 🇺🇸 especially on Donald. You help me make sense of your laws regarding Donald situations. Keep on doing what you are doing.

Wendy, I was thinking about my wording after I posted and I realized I should have said "the future of the world," not just the country. You are absolutely right that what happens here will affect everyone. (I have family in Canada and the UK and I routinely send them news from here, which they don't always see where they are.)

Expand full comment

Your wording was absolutely correct. I like to just remind people how much of a roll the US 🇺🇸 plays in the world.

100% correct. And our Americans need to wake up and understand how important this is. Trump needs to fade into the background and world matters need to regain their place in our daily conscience

I’m so sorry. I hate what this guy has done to our country and our world. I pray that enough Americans wake up, come to their senses, and re elect Biden. Trump is an idiot AND he’s old.

Expand full comment

Trust me, it has nothing to do with his age. Demons come in all sizes and ages. Check MAGA.

Expand full comment

Yes!! I mentioned that because of the attention paid to Biden’s age. Trump is also close to biden’s age, but in addition to that he is incompetent, corrupt and not interested in governing. And to me age is irrelevant. Biden’s done a great job

Not just Trump and not just Canada. Anarchy is a world wide problem and once it begins they feel strong enough to keep pushing it. Just remember when they take the microphone: "The empty barrel makes the most noise." Don't stand down to our Freedom."

Mary's agenda, from the beginning, is to keep us informed about the dangers her father's brother poses to our country and the world .

You got a problem with that? WE DON'T.

I don't think he actually wanted or needed Alex Jones' endorsement. Calling him Canada's Trump is stupid- something the Liberals are doing because they see that they are down in the polls and just hope people don't take the time to ascertain just what is true.

Mary's work must be making her Uncle nervous. Bet the complainer was one of his maggots.

Expand full comment

Hmm. I dunno. A single subscriber?, wrote to express their appreciation AND desire for content?, and it gets spun into a donor fest, which is fine except. The non-subscriber faces pitchforks and venom for appealing for access to privileged content, fear of having to pay money to person in position to know that is need-to-know voter tabloid fodder because Donald Trump is such a weirdo, public benefits from insider facts and characterizations.

Consider entrepreneurial money-spinners, passing on cost of a Substack column, is it similar?, to golden running shoes, King James Bible?—consider the public good.

I can understand feeling vulnerable with no money, appealing to gatekeeper with VALUED info available merely because writer lives it, bearing witness. Not exactly a paid informant, but I can understand the non-subscriber’s questions and conundrum.

Don’t turn their fears into a backslapping opportunity. Just do one’s thing and remain proud of unquestioning support. I run the other way from shadow of position questioning those that may question. Hang in there but humility around support means, “You’re welcome, no problem, enjoy.”

Trial??? What trial???"

I'm sure that others have already come to the conclusion that I have just come to. But it has suddenly just dawned on me what Trump's flagrant disregard of the Court's gag order and his smears and clownish antics are really all about.

I now believe that his end game is not merely about taunting and baiting the judge into throwing him into jail so that he could hold himself out as a "political prisoner".

It's more basic than that. And it resembles the political version of the common "Mustard Distraction Scam" practiced by teams of 2 or more pickpockets. One of the group squirts mustard on their victim while the others pick his pockets.

Is Trump squirting us all with mustard to distract us from his hush-money criminal trial and his other crimes?

Last night on The Daily Show, there was a variety of skits parodying Trump's antics in violation of the Court's gag order. They were very funny until, at the end of the show, someone asked, "What case???"

Trump appears to taking a page out of the magician's manual by trying to get us to take our eye off the ball to focus on his antics.

I believe that the extract from the article below on the "Art of Distraction: How Magicians Manipulate Our Minds" could be serving as a blueprint for Trump to distract the electorate' from his "Catch & Kill" hush-money payments to his porn star flame, his attempted coup, his plot to use phony electors, his sexual molestation and defamations and his business frauds. By playing himself to the hilt as the loudmouth blowhard slandering witnesses, judges and even their children and taunting and baiting the judge to throw him in jail, Trump has been struggling to keep the spotlight on him and his vaudeville act and off all the crimes he's committed.

The title of the article is: "Art of Distraction: How Magicians Manipulate Our Minds" https://www.miragenews.com/art-of-distraction-how-magicians-manipulate-our-1024588/#

The following are extracts:

"The key principle employed by magicians is misdirection - guiding attention away from a secret action. It can be as simple as a magician waving one hand to draw attention away from what the other is doing. This exploits what is known as the 'spotlight theory' of attention, which posits that we can only fully concentrate on one thing at a time. When a magician guides our attentional spotlight away from their trick's method, they are free to execute their secret maneuvers without detection....[T]hese principles are closely related to the techniques used in persuasion, advertising, and even political propaganda..."

Hey everybody! Look over here. It's showtime, starring Donald J. Trump!!

Trial? What trial????

Expand full comment

Some of it is that; however, most of it had to do with his mental illness. He lacks the capacity for certain limits that the rest of us recognize. It's a powerful combination, and it needs to stop.

Expand full comment

Yes, as you say, that contributor’s distraction characterization is all true—but meantime, the slowness of justice has had a maybe unanticipated consequence—given time and opportunity for some MAGA to be deprogrammed, serve prison sentences, learning that, say, getting crushed in, say, 2008–and, though entranced by empty-promises for change from the inside, were lies from a fox in the henhouse.

It’s almost like Trump’s ambition for martyrdom has been USED, in a game of Piggy-in-the-Middle, and by Trump predictably putting himself in front of so many microphones, each time illustrating an aged broken loser. TIME and exposure, not by design, has done the work that proper fast justice would have denied.

We still deserve to see justice. You are right, but that is not enough. He has been harming people, including his own family members, for decades.
