It’s OK for a Republican to Hate Guns
But only if he lies about it
Like most people who grew up in the borough of Queens, NY, Donald Trump hates guns. It is perhaps, the only slightly redeeming thing about him. Or it would be if it weren’t for the fact that, of course, that reasonable hatred gets canceled out when he pretends he’s pro-gun, consistently advancing the agendas of terrorist groups like the NRA.
But politicians tell white lies and half-truths when the actual truth risks offending special-interest groups. Remember what happened when George H.W. Bush said he didn’t like broccoli? So why is Donald’s lie about guns of interest?
Because, for reasons that continue to remain a mystery, the corporate media remain stubbornly unwilling to call Donald out on his biggest lies—about the Presidential Records Act, and the January 6th insurrection, and the results of the 2020.
Taken together, these lies and the Republican Party’s willingness to embrace and disseminate them, pose the greatest threat to our democracy in modern history.
Because of this, Americans are being misled to believe disinformation about the limits of presidential power which, in future could benefit any president who has no qualms about over-stepping his authority and illicitly grabbing more power; the normalization of Donald’s self-coup; and the integrity of elections and the non-partisan professionalism of election workers.
All three of these is potentially fatal to the future and health of American democracy.
In the video Donald is wandering around touring an armory in South Carolina. At one point, he stops to have his picture taken while holding a Glock. “Isn’t Glock a good gun?” he asks, which is not a question anybody who knows anything about guns would ask.
I was actually quite surprised to see Donald touching the weapon until I realized it’s a special edition Glock that has a picture of his face etched onto its special gold handle. When somebody tells him it “sells great” he responds, “They really like me,” because he just can’t help himself. “I want to buy one,” he adds. He does not end up buying one, likely because its illegal in South Carolina for anybody who is already under federal indictment to buy a gun.
I know this isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but if the media won’t hold Donald’s feet to the fire over his consequential and potentially disastrous lies, the least they could do is flag the smaller ones. As we know from the Herculean work done by The Washington Post fact-checking team, Donald told over 30,573 public lies during the four years he was in the Oval Office.
High-lighting them, not letting them slide into an indistinguishable mass of “untruths” would go a long way towards keeping his colossal and dangerous mendacity relevant. The media can’t let all of Donald’s transgressions get folded into what they think most people already know or believe about him. And neither can we.
Mary nails it as usual. A lie is a lie is a lie. Lies are planned, or not, but they are intentional. Donald does both. They should give him an Oscar for telling lies in a convincing fashion. I can always tell when he's lying by his body language - tilted head to the left, fingers splayed, palms forward. His hands say "stop reality from hitting me". He lives in his "wonderful me" narcissist land and has dragged millions into his second world of reality. It's really pathetic. So are the guns that kill so many people and are unnecessary.
His illicit "grabbing of power" and of precious body parts belonging to women = blecccchhhhhhh. I prefer presidents who are not RAPISTS & FELONS.
