I am afraid Mary that the people in the Trump administration have done their homework far better than his first administration, and have figured out the loopholes however small or however large in our system of justice. Also, they have created a cabal of leaders who are no longer interested in the democratic process and want to replace it with something more nimble to the desires of the rich and powerful. They no longer believe that our Constitution, specifically designed to thwart an authoritarian like King George, is the way to go. Too cumbersome; nothing gets done in such a partisan state like we have in this country. In other words - project 2025. Just how many are involved in this illegal effort that we do not yet know. Are Thomas and Alito involved? Roberts? Thunes? Graham? Bondi? Patel? Hegseth? Speaker Johnson? That is important to know. Because armed with knowledge of all our system's shortcomings, these people can literally stage a coup if there is enough support from the legislative and judicial branches. Court orders can be simply ignored. Impeachments? Forget it. Congressional subpaena's? Really? It looks to me that we are wide open to a coup. And if that happens, you can probably say goodbye to the mid term elections. Or if they occur they will be rigged Hungary style. Russia style. As for Trump - it is clear to all more than at any time before that he is a dufus. A clown albeit a dangerous and vindictive one. He is there as a figurehead whose ego can be fed and is being coached to do what the real evil folks want. All this talk of constitutional crisis - of course it is. So what. The Constitution will be dead. All this talk of illegality - of course. But it doesn't matter if nobody is going to prosecute. All this talk of the American people who voted for Trump and didn't see this coming? Probably true - but so what? Dictators do not have to bend to the will of the people. They control the military and the FBI and can sick them on protestors if need be. All this talk of Republicans paying for this in the mid-terms? The mid-terms are very much at risk for that very reason. We may not have mid-terms. I actually do not see a way out of this short of a violent overthrow some day, just like so many banana republics. And alot blood will be spilled. Boy do I hope that I am wrong.
