Why it's the nail in Donald's coffin

You may have heard a recent report about the testimony Jack Smith has received in his January 6 case which is sure to leave Donald reeling:

Not only did Dan Scavino, who has worked for Donald for decades, supply federal prosecutors with pivotal information about Donald’s frame of mind during the January 6 attack on the Capitol — but so did Donald’s personal assistant, Nick Luna.

But there’s more to this story—much more—that I will get to below. This is really bad for Donald and I’ll explain exactly why. But first:

What Scavino Said

Sources close to the investigation say Scavino told Jack Smith's investigators that as the violence increased on January 6, Donald "was just not interested" in stopping it.

He apparently also went into great detail about how angry Donald was about the election being “stolen” and this left Scavino feeling “unsettled.”

What Luna Said

Donald’s personal aide, Nick Luna allegedly told federal investigators that when Donald was informed that Mike Pence was being rushed to a secure location because his life was in danger, Donald said, "So what?" According to ABC News, Luna interpreted Donald’s response as a willingness to allow potential harm come to the Vice President.

Why is this so bad for Donald?

REASON 1: Scavino and Luna have the most dirt on Donald. I showed an attorney their testimony, and he said it’s damning for Donald for a very important reason:

When Jack Smith faces the jury in Donald’s January 6th case, he’s going to need to prove each element of the charges. Explaining Donald’s motives and getting inside his state of mind as the events on January 6th unfolded will be crucial for his case. In this regard, Scavino’s and Luna’s perspectives are particularly persuasive. Both men were in close proximity to Donald that day, and Scavino was in charge of helping Donald craft his weak “stay peaceful” January 6 Tweet that came much too late that afternoon.

REASON 2: Scavino’s and Luna’s statements are specific and, given their insider-status and (up until now) unwavering loyalty, they are surprisingly critical of their boss. We only have a small piece of what they told federal prosecutors — and it’s bad. These men were among Donald’s closest sycophants and if they’re throwing him under the bus, it means Jack Smith had information that led them to believe they had no choice but to spill what they knew.

It isn't just the attorney I spoke to who thinks Donald is about to go through some things. While appearing on Ali Velshi’s show, respected former federal prosecutor Harry Litman said the testimony was a devastating blow to Donald because it destroyed his “ignorance” defense.

If “you think of it through the vantage point of the prosecution, the one thing that Trump could maybe try through surrogates to claim at trial is, ‘It took him by surprise. He never knew this would happen.’”

But with evidence that Donald was told about the ongoing violence and the threats to Pence’s life, that option is off the table.

“It is very, very powerful evidence,” Litman continued. “If you look at it through the prism of what Jack Smith has to prove at trial. It pretty much is a nail in the coffin of Trump’s intent.”

Jack Smith has the goods

It looks like Jack Smith has been steady in his determination to hold Donald accountable and I continue to be impressed by his handling of the case. The news that two of Donald’s closest allies have provided damning information to prosecutors should give us hope that justice could be around the corner.

Monitoring every single one of Donald’s transgressions and staying up to date on his many trials is extremely time-consuming.
