George Santos has been EXPELLED from Congress in a historic vote. The REAL reason he’s gone is perfectly MAGA. Read on:
Per CNN:
“The House voted to expel disgraced GOP Rep. George Santos over ethics violations, making him only the sixth lawmaker ever kicked out of the chamber. The resolution passed with a tally of 311-114, with 105 Republicans voting in favor.”
“Expulsion is the most severe form of punishment for a House lawmaker, and Santos is the first member of Congress expelled since the Civil War who wasn’t first convicted of a felony.”
You would think the litany of lies and allegations of fraud might be enough. After all, Santos has been credibly accused of spending campaign funds on luxury expenses such as Botox while stealing charity money that was supposed to be used to pay for treatments for a veteran's sick service dog.
However, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to today’s expulsion vote.
Earlier today, Donald’s former aide, Max Miller, a staunch MAGA Republican and currently the Representative for Ohio’s 7th District, sent a letter to his colleagues explaining why he will be voting to expel.
Here’s Miller’s statement:
“Earlier this year I learned that the Santos campaign had charged my personal credit card - and the personal card of my Mother—for contribution amounts that exceeded FEC limits.
Neither my Mother nor I approved these charges or were aware of them.” He’s spent “tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees” in order to resolve the matter.
In other words, Miller didn’t vote to expel George Santos because he’s been indicted on a shocking 23 federal charges.
He is voting to expel him because Santos allegedly stole money from him and his mother.
It’s always the same with the right: They only seem to care about an issue if it impacts them directly.
In any event, Miller’s letter was sent to EVERY Republican in the House caucus and created a small firestorm.
As the vote got closer, Republican leadership started to lean towards voting to keep Santos in Congress. Was Miller’s letter that the final straw that broke Santos’ career in the House of Representatives? It’s hard to say. Can we assume that Republicans who voted to expel Santos were accounted out of integrity? At this point, I would say never.
What now?
As George Santos leaves Congress in order to spend more time with his legal team, all I can really say about his expulsion is:
It’s better than nothing.
Instead of burying my face in my hands, I'm gonna laugh at this one. Is there a bottom for the GOP?
Doubtful that Elise Stefanik voted to expel him as she endorsed him 100% , as she continues to do with Trump. She has betrayed us as her constituents.
