Ok Mary. You are up there with the true angels in this spinning universe while your uncle strolls around in the pit with shrimp p & or. Congratulations on reaching 200,000.

I subscribed as a SS Retired in SC, I was a bit shocked at the $60.00, but I said" Mary's doing this for all of us", soooo okay.

Thank you Mary , from this 80 you, N. Y. er, stuck in my Maternal hometown... South kala key is hell with it's Plantation Mindset.👋 😎♏

Congratulations Mary! Thank too for your kind consideration of Linda Krause.. It was nice to “see “ simple kindness. That’s how normal, honorable people treat each other. How Jesus Christ taught us to treat each other - I am pointing out to the for the “Christian Nationals”. But what is your uncle willing to go with now - Cutting Social Security because it is part of his “buddies” Project 2025.

Glad you are planning to go to YouTube Mary.

That's a great point, Kay G.

I love that she offered that to Linda. That's exactly what is lacking in Donald's ability to relate with empathy and kindness.

Mary has given us a healthy example of what Americans must do for each other.

Expand full comment

That is so kind and generous of you Mary, but I'm in the same situation as Linda Krause and I know I feel as she does: I value more the things I sacrifice for than anything I get for free. I want to feel like an equal supporter to important causes, an no cause is as important as the one we are currently focused on. This is right up there with the panet dying. I'm not even being hyperbolic here.

Thanks Mary!💙

Can we keep emphasizing that a third party candidate has zero chance. In 1992 Ross Perot received 19,741,657 votes, think about that for a second, and yet received zero, none, nada electoral college votes. Can it be more clear?

Expand full comment

Ralph Nader had received over 2 million votes in the 2000 election. Some argued that Ralph Nader's candidacy cost Al Gore the election. What is your take on that?

Expand full comment

It certainly didn't help but the real culprits were the Supreme Court.

Expand full comment

Too true, Maureen. How lovely it is to see that people like you pay attention and don't have the 'short memories' that so many seem to have. Thanks!

Thanks Rebecca. I'll never forget the night I heard the news. I was in England after my Mother's funeral, RIP, and I was furious. My family who do not live in the U S were dumbfounded at my reaction.. Scalia led that terrible decision.

That was the beginning of the Maga- Refukkkans on that night. The Supreme Court began it's s descent into HADES and have been rollerblading further into it since. 👋💯😡😎♏

This maybhappen again when R. Kennedy shows up for his cut of presidential votes.😖

Expand full comment

Without a doubt he cost Gore the election, and to add insult to injury, the "chads" were no counted. Gore won Florida which is not a secret, just travesty.

Expand full comment

And Jill Stein and Bernie Sanders--here in Michigan--in 2016. That was the death knell for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Expand full comment

Bernie Sanders was not a third party candidate.

Expand full comment

I agree! And still angry about it!

Expand full comment

No question about it. Thank you, Bruce.

Have we learned our lesson yet about these 3rd party candidates...? Have we?

Expand full comment

My very progressive community radio station in Tampa had a few hosts who pushed Nadar relentlessly. They never accepted any guilt but I can’t help but think their big, progressive audience thought the race was won and took the opportunity to cast their vote for Nadar. I definitely did not but heard the Nadar talk every day. The margin was small enough that they could have made the difference. It’s been a sticky subject among members and hosts ever since. I have always believed they lost it for Gore.

Expand full comment

Thank you for your perspective, Gloria. I also believe Ralph Nader was a spoiler as a 3rd party candidate and he had a definite impact on Al Gore's chances..

Many "progressives" voted for Jill Stein instead of HRC - - and boosted djt's chances.

Expand full comment

Well, since SCOTUS made the ad hoc ruling that Bush "won" Florida by only 500 votes ("chads" be damned!), it sure seems like Nader is at least partially responsible for the rise of the Neocons, MAGA and the unleashing of authoritarian rule that could become the People's Republic of America...

Jill Stein was the 3rd party spoiler that gave us the Don of Golf.

He knows he cannot win, he is being bankrolled by the same billionaires as Donald to help Trump win. The Independent said "current polling suggests that RFK Jr could entice roughly the same number of supporters away from both Mr Biden and Mr Trump in November. The latest RealClear Polling average foresees Mr Trump winning a three-way race between the three candidates by a 5.4 per cent margin, picking up 40.7 per cent of the vote to Mr Biden’s 35.3 per cent and Mr Kennedy’s 12.3 per cent." This is Gore/Nader 2.0. Frightening!

Expand full comment

Also Lisa, Donito is looking at the April 15th hush money/election interference trial that will make him look terrible to many nonMAGA women, who are already pissed about Dobbs. Plus the fact he is losing it cognitively. And his campaign and the RNC are broke. Biden’s campaign is raising tons of money and currently has $155 million in the coffers. Lots of reasons for optimism!

Expand full comment
founding

Love your positivity. Now how do we translate that into democrats showing up to vote this November? Too many youth and underprivileged feel government does not apply to them and it does not matter who the president is in relation to their day to day life. They believe nothing will change either way. We must show them when you vote for President you are voting for the entire federal government and the true trickle down effect it has on all of us and the world. Your thoughts?

I think Joe Biden has laid the groundwork for that with the support of organized labor, climate legislation, other green initiatives in the Inflation Reduction Act and the infrastructure bill. Made progress on gun control, wants to return to the expanded child tax credit, more college loan forgiveness and support for abortion rights. All Trump has is grievances about the so called stolen election and witch hunts and pathetic pandering on the border. I don’t think that will fly if that’s all he has in 7 months at which time he will likely be a convicted felon. Lisa, I’d rather be us than them any day.

Expand full comment

I wonder how many young people in college are aware of Bidens plans for college loan forgiveness.

Expand full comment

I would say a lot of young people in college know. He has already forgiven some and it’s been publicized for years.

Expand full comment

I think Shawn Fain has been a wonderful asset to Biden, and vice versa. It's critical to win at least some of the labor vote back from DJT, and some here in Ohio are seeing what Biden and Sherrod Brown have done for us vs Donald just talking a lot.

Consider well placed pro Biden/pro Democracy billboards in rural areas, low income areas, college towns, etc. with eye catching art work and slogans. And

Dems must be willing to go into difficult areas and join with “hands on” local candidates who understand the needs of local folks. Here they’ll determine the best use of resources to get new voters and to recruit workers.

Great idea. A friend here in CA went to Kansas during the Trump/Hillary campaign. She was shocked at the numbers of antiHillary signs everywhere she drove. Obviously, they had an effect in addition to the other shenanigans committed by Trump and his crowd.

One very effective campaign that has proven effectiveness is postcard to various segments of the population. There are already groups organized to do that. Here are some:

www.postcardsto voters.org.

www.turnoutpac.org. this is postcards to swing states.

There are others but these seem to be well organized and have a successful track record.

Also Lisa, your reference of “Mr. Trump” is way too polite. In a historical conversation would you say “Mr. Hitler? Kind of the same deal.

Excuse me, David. Here in New York City we call him SHITLER.

Agree there are lots of better appellations for the Orange Turd, but calling him Mr. is a pointed rejection of calling him President (Orange Turd). (I can't even write his name, just like when his image appears on TV, my eyes automatically shift elsewhere.)

Not the same yet. Although with the 500k unnecessary COVID deaths his lies and misinformation caused he is a murderer in my opinion. If he wins we could have another Hitler on our hands and I will never vote for him no matter what President Biden does. I refer to him mostly as Donald and once in a while Trump for clarification. We are all Americans and must always speak respectfully to and about each other no matter how vehemently we disagree with one another. Thank you.

"Like a snappin' turtle waitin' for thunder!" That's wonderful!

Except for one thing. Snapping turtles are much too good for Donald! They are very interesting critters, that play important roles in the ecology of ponds. A major thrill from a couple of years go was when my border collie, Natalie, found quite a large snapping turtle next to Fresh Pond, in Cambridge, but on the opposite side of the chain link fence, where it posed no threat to Natalie, or me. I wished I'd had a camera.

And I'm pretty sure, Mary, that I got you a couple of handfuls of subscriptions, something I'm very happy about, and I'm grateful for your book, "How my family created the most dangerous man, which educated me before Biden displaced that piece of slag, Donald.)

As you said, Mary, “He’s never prayed in his life. If that were a real bible, it would burst into a ball of flame.” Most of us discerned as much. But I believe you are right. There is Gen Z and thousands of other people out there who do not read, listen to the news, and are ignorant about America's political landscape. Gen Z "kids" are often addicted to social media and You Tube. They need your moxie to

educate them about your crazy uncle. I look forward to seeing how that unfolds!

It’s important to know there are many Gen Z communities who are working to save democracy and to get out the vote.
