Donald Trump’s racism and xenophobia are on full display. That’s what MAGA loves about him. That’s why his base is so steadfast.

His central mandate is racism. The Trump-Vance flags/banners in my neighborhood say “Take America Back.” From whom? Blatantly racist.

They think racism is cool and aren't embarrassed like they should be. I'll be glad when they crawl back under their rocks!

All the GOP have is racism: Migrant caravans, Haitians eating pets, Blood libel, "Black jobs". It IS their campaign.

How about wearing this "Keep the immigrants, deport the racists" shirt in front of them? 👇

Even the Indigenous People immigrated here. AND Europe. The first Homo sapiens originated in Africa (unless they very recently found earlier remains in Asia). Even the Genus Homo didn't arrive until the first Indigenous People arrived from Asia and they were all of the same species - sapiens. So if der donald und der valueless want to get rid of immigrants ALL OF US HAVE TO GO. Thanks Mary for always speaking up.

Don't forget that Pope Francis, the leader of the same Catholic Church that is responsible for eliminating the Indigenous people, refused to endorse the only moral presidential candidate just a week ago. The Chumash arrived in California 10,000 years ago, about the same time the Marsh Arabs started trading in Mesopotamia. The Catholic Church, through their proxies in Spain and Mexico, killed virtually all of them. The US government finished off the rest by offering Anglo settlers reimbursement for ammo and expenses incurred while eliminating the Chumash and other California coastal tribes. The survivors were rounded up by the padres and served as slave laborers tanning hides in the California mission concentration camps. 200 years ago, the Chumash rebelled at Mission Santa Barbara, Mission Santa Ynez and Mission Purisima. Of course they were slaughtered - just like Cardinal Dolan and Pope Francis slaughtered American democracy.

That's a story line that begins long before the Vikings. For the purposes of this discussion regarding the Americas, I suggest we might stick to more recent centuries--like 1000 AD

Expand full comment

Actually the Indigenous people started arriving around 20, 000 years ago, So they predate even the Vikings who most assuredly predated Columbus (who never set foot on the Continent) The name America comes from a Spanish explorer Amerigo.

Expand full comment

Fay, mentioning Columbus prompts me to say that I have not observed the “Columbus Day” holiday for over 40 years. The beginning of the European colonization of the Americas began with his arrival. The violence associated with that invasion caused the enslavement and deaths of thousands of indigenous peoples and the displacement of their communities. I see his arrival as the origin of a disgraceful and shameful legacy. I cannot support that part of our history by celebrating his arrival.

Expand full comment

Agreed, But I see Columbus day more as admiring the contributions of the Italian Americans, just as St,l Patrick's Day celebrates contributions of Irish Americans and Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexican Americans, and Martin Luther King Day celebrates the huge debt we owe African Americans for their enormous contribution they have given the United States. Now if only we celebrated Robbie Burns Day (January 25) I being more than 90% Scottish ancestry would be very, very happy. We might add Bastille Day for the French Americans, and Guy Faux Day for the Brits. I'm sure there would be enough ethnic days to fill the calendar.

In view of the travesties committed as stated in my previous comments, I join the 13 states that do not celebrate Columbus Day. Instead, I wholeheartedly support Indigenous Peoples’ Day.

Translation:

In every country and continent conquered by “explorers,” people died for no apparent reason. The conquerors were only interested in seizing lands for their kings. [I would add 'and looting']

Things were even crazier at the time of the Crusades, which aimed to convert Muslims to Christianity by force of arms. That was also the case on the American continent, because the others who had been living there for ages were the "savages" and, in their opinion, were not civilized.

Human history is actually pretty bad because it has always been about power and wealth. And that others had to work hard so that some people could become rich.

Juli 1905 verließen die Trumps von Hamburg aus endgültig Deutschland. Drei Monate später kam Frederick Trump, der Vater von Donald Trump, auf die Welt – und zwar in New York.

But he was considered a military refugee - and therefore the authorities banned Friedrich Trump from Bavarian territory, as documents show: On July 1, 1905, the Trumps finally left Germany from Hamburg. Three months later, Frederick Trump, Donald Trump's father, was born - in New York. Donald had already claimed that his father came from Sweden, which of course was nonsense. Unique thing about it is you make up words on the fly, so it's not as simple as going to a German to English dictionary. you won't find half the words. so, you have to break words apart into smaller words and see if you can find them. if you do, you have to guess what they all have incommon to find an equivalent single English word. that's what I know about German. German is also a Hodge Podge of several different languages mixed together, so about a quarter are similar to English.

If journalists who don't want anything to do with Trump took photos at such events with high-flying drones, everyone could see how many (or rather how few) people actually gathered there. When Donald first became president, pro-Trump newspapers ran photos that were very cleverly taken to simulate a large crowd. Photos taken from further away have proven exactly that. I will now simply use DeepL to translate so that you can understand it directly.

This page, as well as others in a language other than German, I translate directly with my browser “Vivaldi”, otherwise it would be very tedious to read here. As far as Trump is concerned, I just bought the book “War” by Bob Woodward a few days ago and read half of it. In it, he reports on many things that Trump has done and, to be honest, I'm very surprised that people in the USA are even allowing a racist, misogynist and absolute fool with a criminal record to run for president. Are the Republicans in the USA that desperate already?

Like my friends and acquaintances here in Germany, I will be keeping my fingers crossed that Kamala Harris becomes the next US president. And I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Donald Trump is finally sent to prison for life and then hopefully lives to be 100 years old.

To clarify why I'm not writing in English: in the free version of DeepL I only have a limited number of characters available; once I've used them up, I have to wait a day to be able to translate again.

This development, which is currently taking place in the USA, can be observed throughout Europe.

In France it is Marine Le Pen, in the Netherlands Geert Wilders and here in Germany some disgusting guy called Bernhard Höcke.

In France and the Netherlands, the right-wingers have quite a lot of support; here in Germany, these right-wingers only reach 20%. That sounds like a lot, but so far there is no party that would govern together with these lunatics.

The really crazy thing is that with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, so many neo-Nazis suddenly appeared, all of whom came from the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) and had to live in a dictatorship controlled by Moscow.

After 34 years of being part of the entire Federal Republic, people there are also dissatisfied and grumble about immigrants. There's no denying that we've had some criminal immigrants, but these right-wing idiots think everyone is a criminal.

It's the same in France and the Netherlands; it's always someone else's fault but their own.

So we have copies of Donald Trump in Europe and quite a lot of people are following these nutters.

Did you know that Prescott Bush, the great-grandfather of George W. Bush Jr., was considered one of the supporters of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party NSDAP?

According to various sources, he is said to have “donated” around 400,000 gold marks in 1939. 1 Goldmark contained 12 grams of 999 gold and would be worth approximately €1000 or US$1081.33 today.

So a Nazi was already in the USA before the world war and made a fortune with the Nazis.

Here is a copied text from World Socialist Web Site:

Prescott Bush and the Nazis

Covering up the historical roots of fascism in Germany has a special, even personal meaning for Bush. The President's father did business with the Bin Laden family. His grandfather increased the family's wealth by doing business with Nazi Germany. Some suspect that the Bush fortune stems in part directly from the exploitation of slave labor in Auschwitz.

From the 1920s to the 1940s - i.e. until after the start of the Second World War - Prescott Bush was a partner and member of the board of Brown Brothers Harriman Holding Company on Wall Street and head of one of its key financial components, the Union Banking Corporation (UBC).

Together with his father-in-law George Herbert Walker - the great-grandfather of the current president - Prescott Bush controlled the Hamburg-America shipping line, which was also owned by the holding company and which the Nazis used to transport their agents to and from North America.

A 1945 investigation reveals that the bank run by Prescott Bush was linked to the German Steel Trust, which was run by Thyssen and Flick, one of the defendants at Nuremberg. This gigantic industrial concern produced half of the steel and over a third of the explosives and other not inconsiderable strategic materials needed by the German war machine during the war years.

According to Loftus, the Bush family received 1.5 million dollars for their shares in UBC when the bank was finally dissolved in 1951. “That's where the Bush family's wealth came from: It came from the Third Reich,” Loftus explained in a recent speech.

Loftus claims that this money - a sizable sum at the time - included direct profits from the slave labor of Auschwitz victims. In an interview with journalist Toby Rogers, the former prosecutor said: “It's bad enough that the Bush family helped Thyssen raise the money for the rise of Hitler in the 1920s, but to help the enemy in time of war is treason. The Bush bank helped the Thyssens produce the Nazi steel that killed Allied soldiers. As bad as financing the Nazi war machine may seem, aiding and abetting the Holocaust was worse.

Who is actually worse: the Nazis in Europe or the supporters in the USA who profited from them?

To be honest, I'm not so sure that Adolf Hitler would have gotten as far as he did if the Bushs and Rockefellers and whoever else hadn't been so greedy for money...

Strictly speaking, the USA did not stop Hitler's advance and protect anyone, but a few billionaires and millionaires made the whole thing possible in the first place.

That is absolutely perverse!

My husband who is Tibetan, had recently moved to the United States just before the horrific beating of Rodney King. We were visiting my parents. My Dad tried to explain about America. He said, "America is a melting pot." I'll always remember my husband's response: "I think is more like stir fry." LOL!!! My father was so surprised -- and then said, "By golly! You're right!"

No one who came here voluntarily -- no, not even white Europeans -- came because they were doing so well in the Old Country. They weren't the wealthy landowners. They were the second sons who would never inherit. They were widows and orphaned daughters without male relatives who faced a life of abject poverty.

MAGAts are so alienated from their roots that they have forgotten this.

I just listened to a smart political behaviorist, Rachel Bitecofer, speak on the David Pakman show. She pointed out that most people who live in flyover country and who shop at Walmart do not give one little shit or pay attention. They don't care that Trump is a 47-time sex offender and a felon. They don't know that his generals have called him a fascist. They care about NASCAR and the NFL, and that's it. She noted that 63% of Americans support mass deportation, including 40% of Democrats. This is what we're up against, folks. Racism, misogyny, and dumb-as-shit laziness and ignorance.

If Trump wins, it's because of that. After people get deported en masse and there's no one to pick crops, and prices go up 20% because of tariffs and because there's no one to pick crops, and a national abortion ban goes into effect and a lot more women are dying, and their houses are all floating or burning or blowing away because of global warming, and Trump can do anything he wants because he's immune from prosecution, and Putin invades Ukraine and Poland, and they start rounding up journalists, these ignorant people will wake up and go, 'how the fuck could that have happened?'
